At first, the couple lived in Hue. At that time, Mrs. Dung's family did not agree to marry their daughter to Mr. Loc because they thought that the place where he lived was poor and difficult. Every time Mr. Loc came to Mrs. Dung's house, he was chased away, but he was still determined to pursue Mrs. Dung.
Mr. Loc recalled the old memories of secretly hiding behind Mrs. Dung's porch to eavesdrop on the conversation of his wife's family. Even though the family gathered to object, Mrs. Dung still firmly chose Mr. Loc: "If it's good, I'll rely on it, if it's hard, I'll endure it." That was the moment that made Mr. Loc want to marry Mrs. Dung.
Before the wedding, Mr. Loc took Mrs. Dung home and showed her how hard his life was at that time. If she still truly loved him, he would go to his wife's house to ask for her hand in marriage. Mrs. Dung said that she was only 20 years old at that time so she was not too afraid of suffering. She saw that her husband was a hard-working and ambitious person so she trusted him even more.
After getting married, the couple's life became even more difficult when Mr. Loc had to join the army. At that time, Mrs. Dung was only three or four months pregnant.
Mr. Loc recounted the time he was away from his wife and children to join the army, Mrs. Dung had to stay home alone with her parents-in-law and was a daughter-in-law in difficult circumstances. Despite the hardship, she still persevered in taking care of her children and her husband's family.
After Mr. Loc was discharged from the army, his family decided to move to Ho Chi Minh City to start a business. Life was not easy at that time. Mr. Loc and his wife had to do all kinds of jobs to make a living: cycling to sell lottery tickets, newspapers, selling instant noodles, selling pigs and chickens.
Every month, he saved and sent Mrs. Dung 3 million VND - a huge amount of money in 1997-1998.
Thanks to their hard work and perseverance, they gradually bought a small house in Ho Chi Minh City. However, due to difficult circumstances and business failures, they had to sell their house to make ends meet.
During that journey, Mrs. Dung stayed home to take care of her three children, doing business and paying for their education. Despite many hardships, she never regretted her choice.
Looking back on the past, Mr. Loc could not hide his emotions when sharing that sometimes looking back at the hardships his wife had gone through, he felt remorseful for not being able to bring her a more prosperous life. "But the most important thing is that we always love and accompany each other," he said.
In the final part of the program, Mrs. Dung and Mr. Loc expressed their sincere love for each other. She wished her husband to stay healthy so that they could take care of their children and grandchildren together. Mr. Loc, with a choked voice, apologized for his mistakes and promised to try to make it up to his wife in the remaining time.
