Abundant natural roads
dates caramel is made from pureed dates with coconut milk, salt, vanilla and cinnamon. This kem has a sweet, fragrant taste and provides fiber, rather than just bringing emptiness like refined sugar.
According to Ms. Stephani Johnson, PhD in clinical nutrition, lecturer at Rutgers Medical School (USA), two tablespoons of dates caramel contain about 108 calories, 29 grams of carbohydrates (of which 24 grams are sugar) and 3 grams of fiber. Meanwhile, the same amount of regular coffee ice cream only has about 60 - 70 calories but contains more fat.
Caramel dates are low in fat, rich in fiber and can be good for the intestines. However, the natural sugar content in dates is still high, so it should be consumed in moderation, especially for people with diabetes," Ms. Johnson noted.
Rich in nutrients, good for the heart and digestion
Despite containing a lot of sugar, dates are still highly appreciated for their nutritional value. Dical fruits provide potassium, magnesium, manganese, calcium, phosphorus and vitamin B6, which are important for the heart, bones and brain, says Johnson.
Not only that, this fruit also contains many antioxidants such as flavonoids, carotenoids and phenolic acids, which help reduce inflammation and protect cells from oxidative damage.
The great thing about dates is that they have a low glycemic index, so although they are sweet, they do not cause a sudden increase in blood sugar like chocolate, adds Dr Rabia De Latour, a gastroenterologist and associate professor at Grossman Medical School (New York University, USA).
Use reasonably, do not overuse
Experts agree that whether or not it is healthy depends on the amount used and the overall diet.
People at risk of heart disease can choose dates caramel to avoid saturated fat in coffee ice cream, but people with diabetes should limit the amount of sugar in this natural ice cream.
A small spoonful of dates caramel can help the coffee be slightly sweet and fragrant while still adding fiber. However, if used many times a day, the amount of added sugar is still significant.
