Mr. N and Ms. H fell in love with each other when they were students. Their love story lasted for many years and ended happily with a wedding blessed by family and friends.
However, the happy period did not last long, Mr. N and his wife often argued because of their incompatible personalities. At the climax, the couple's marriage began to have problems when Ms. H announced that she was pregnant.
After visiting the hospital and knowing for sure that she was pregnant, Ms. H's mood became worse. "Before going to bed, my wife said: 'What if this is not your child?'. Hearing that news, I didn't think much of it, just thought that she wasn't ready to have a child, so she gave this reason," he recounted.
On the day his first child was born, Mr. N was devastated when his wife gave him the test results proving that their first son was not his biological child. “When I received the information, I was devastated, everything seemed to collapse. I couldn’t think of anything except to withdraw, because I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. I also tried to take care of the baby until he was strong, but her attitude was unacceptable to me,” Mr. N recounted.
A year later, Mr. N mentioned divorce but Ms. H did not agree. There was even a period when Mr. N had "deliberate thoughts" because: "I thought why I tried my best but many unfair things happened to me and I also thought about committing suicide". Since then, the two have been living apart.
Feeling helpless because of their unhappy married life, Mr. N started dating an old friend - Ms. C after a period of chatting because of sympathy. "She was the first person I shared about my married life with, she sympathized and comforted me a lot, then we got together," Mr. N expressed.
Legally, Mr. N has not completed the divorce proceedings with his wife, but has entered into a relationship with a new person and had a child. This has caused Mr. N and Ms. C to face much opposition from their families and gossip from the surrounding public.
Explaining why he had not yet divorced but had a relationship with another woman, Mr. N said: "Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was impossible to complete the divorce proceedings." However, he said that he had previously mentioned the divorce but Ms. H did not agree. It was not until Mr. N agreed to transfer the land that the couple had saved up to buy to Ms. H that she agreed to sign the divorce papers.
Listening to the marriage story of Mr. N and his wife, director Le Hoang commented that this is an unusual marriage: "A couple can have an unplanned child and may be unhappy because of unfinished plans, but not to the point of automatically turning the child into someone else's child, this story is terribly unusual."
Not only did director Le Hoang think Ms. H’s actions were unusual, he also wondered about Mr. N’s “indifferent” attitude when his wife announced that she had a child with another man: “Your behavior is equally unusual. In the case of a wife showing her husband a test result and affirming that this is not her child, you are not curious about who the father of the child is. A woman who acts like that must have a reason.”
Closing the show, director Le Hoang was surprised when Mr. N agreed to turn on the lights so the audience could see his face.
