Jokes that easily lead to water accidents
In the summer, the demand for learning to swim and playing in the water increases. However, besides the risk of drowning due to lack of skills, many accidents originate from seemingly harmless pranks at swimming pools.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha (34 years old, Hanoi) said that she had witnessed a dangerous situation when taking her child swimming.
The children played with each other by sinking their friends into the water and then carrying each other running in the tank. Some children choked on water, panicked and cried a lot," Ms. Thu Ha recounted.
According to Ms. Ha, many parents are often subjective because they think children are playing in crowded areas.
Just a few seconds of loss of control can cause an incident. Since that day, I have always reminded my child to absolutely not play too much in the water," Ms. Thu Ha said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Minh Duc (27 years old, Phu Tho) said that he witnessed an incident at the swimming pool when children were playing too much in the water.
“There are groups of children competing to pull legs and push friends into the water to tease. One child then choked on water, panicked and clung to the tank wall and did not dare to go into the water anymore,” Mr. Duc recounted.
According to Mr. Duc, many adults at that time still thought the children were just playing normally, so they didn't pay attention.
Tricks like swallowing each other or pulling legs underwater are very dangerous because children easily lose their temper, especially when they do not know how to swim well," Mr. Minh Duc shared.
Do not be subjective when playing underwater
According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Do - a teacher and swimming coach at Ngo Quyen Secondary School - Hai Phong, games such as hugging and holding friends into the water, pulling legs, pulling buoys or accidentally pushing friends into deep areas are very dangerous.
Many children do not know how to swim or are practicing swimming, so when they are surprised, they will easily panic and choke on water," Mr. Nguyen Huu Do shared.

According to the coach, the reason for many underwater accidents is due to subjective psychology and lack of observation from adults.
Children are often not fully aware of the danger of the water environment, while parents are sometimes negligent when taking their children swimming," said Mr. Nguyen Huu Do.
Besides the risk of drowning, incidents such as cramps or heatstroke also often occur in the summer if swimmers exercise too much or play uncontrollably. Many children lack handling skills when encountering problems underwater.
The most important thing is that the children lose their composure. Besides, many children do not know the skills of floating up or diving to survive to protect themselves," said Mr. Nguyen Huu Do.
During teaching, teachers and coaches regularly remind students about dangerous underwater behaviors.
Right from the beginning of the class, we always analyze to help students understand how dangerous the water environment is and not to play too much," Mr. Nguyen Huu Do shared.
According to the trainer, parents should let children learn to swim early and equip themselves with more aquatic survival skills instead of just learning basic swimming movements.
Parents need to remind their children not to go swimming in ponds, lakes, rivers and must know how to handle incidents. Knowing how to swim alone is not enough, the important thing is to know how to protect yourself," the coach emphasized.
Mr. Minh Duc added that parents should not be subjective when letting children play at swimming pools, even in rural or crowded areas.
