In the new episode of the "Newlyweds" program, the couple Minh Kim (25 years old) and her Taiwanese (Chinese) husband - Chen Chien Yi brought many interesting stories about their journey of getting to know each other, falling in love and building a life in Vietnam.
According to Minh Kim's sharing, the two met when Chen actively texted through Instagram, at that time he was still living in Taiwan (China). At that time, Minh Kim was only about 19-20 years old, so she was quite hesitant before the introduction of a foreigner.
He texted a lot but I didn't dare to reply because I was afraid of being scammed. Even looking at the profile picture, I found it... a bit scary," Minh Kim recounted.
After many persistent text messages, Mr. Chen suggested meeting and invited her to eat hotpot. Initially, Minh Kim refused because she was worried about meeting strangers. However, when she learned that Mr. Chen was with a female assistant, she agreed.
At that time, I also liked hotpot, so I went to try it. The main purpose was to eat, not to get to know him," Minh Kim said jokingly.
Minh Kim's first impression of Chen in real life is quite positive. She said that the Taiwanese (China) guy behaves politely, talks gently and does not have excessive actions. Although he does not know Vietnamese, Chen still tries to communicate in English, sometimes asking his assistant to translate it.
After a few meetings, the two gradually developed feelings for each other. Chen said he was attracted to Minh Kim's cuteness and sincerity.
About three or four times going out to eat together, I started to like Minh Kim," he shared.
However, their love story also faced many barriers, especially from the girl's family. Minh Kim said that her parents' generation had many prejudices about marrying Taiwanese (China). Therefore, it took her nearly a year to dare to bring her boyfriend home to meet.
Fortunately, when meeting Mr. Chen, Minh Kim's mother had a good impression. The boy proactively spoke Vietnamese. The sincere way of speaking gradually made the family more open to the relationship between the two.
After deciding to stick with it, Mr. Chen came to Vietnam to start a bar business. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic and the bar being located in a Western Quarter and heavily dependent on international guests, the business was not successful. At that time, his family in his hometown wanted him to return home.
Faced with a difficult choice, Mr. Chen decided to propose to Minh Kim to continue staying in Vietnam. The proposal took place during a trip to Ho Tram with a space decorated with flowers and romantic music. Although Minh Kim anticipated the plan, she was still moved by her boyfriend's efforts when trying to sing a Vietnamese song to confess his love.
After getting married, the couple took about three years to welcome their first child. Minh Kim said that both were quite stressed when they were late to have children, but in the end, the joy came naturally. When he heard the news that his wife was pregnant, Mr. Chen was so moved that he almost burst into tears.
Currently, the couple are both doing a milk tea chain business in Ho Chi Minh City. Minh Kim revealed that her mother-in-law in Taiwan (China) also provides financial support for the small family to develop business and take care of their grandchildren.
