The Law on Officers of the Vietnam People's Army, in Article 38, stipulates the ranks of reserve officers as follows: Reserve officers include first-class reserve officers and second-class reserve officers according to the age limit prescribed in Clause 1, Article 13 of this Law.
Clause 1, Article 13 provides as follows:
Article 13.Service age of officers The maximum age limit for officers in active service and reserve officers is prescribed as follows: 1.
According to military rank: Lieutenant: active service 44, reserve class one 46, reserve class two 48; Major: active service 46, reserve class one 49, reserve class two 52; Lieutenant Colonel: active service 49, reserve class one 52, reserve class two 55; Senior Colonel: active service 52, reserve class one 55, reserve class two 58; Colonel: active service 55, reserve class one 58, reserve class two 60; General: active service 60, reserve class one 63, reserve class two 65.
In the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Officers of the Vietnam People's Army (effective from December 1, 2024), Article 38 is amended as follows:
“Article 38.Service age of reserve officers The maximum age limit for reserve officers is prescribed as follows: Lieutenant: 51; Major: 53; Lieutenant Colonel: 56; Senior Colonel: 57; Colonel: 60; General: 63.”
Thus, the maximum service age of reserve officers will change as above from December 1, 2024.
