Two performances "Dynamite" and "Butter" by BTS suddenly no longer appear on the Grammy official website, just two days after the group announced that they would not submit works to the 2027 season.
This move continues to spark debate surrounding the relationship between the Korean group and the prestigious American music award.
As of July 31, when accessing the performance archives section on the Grammy website, fans no longer found a video of BTS performing "Dynamite" at the 2021 awards ceremony and "Butter" at the 2022 awards ceremony. The organizers have not yet given a reason for this change.
The disappearance of the two videos occurred just two days after BTS announced that they would not submit the album "Arirang" to the 2027 Grammys. On social networks, many opinions suggest that this may be a Grammy response to the group's decision. However, so far there has been no official information confirming the two related events.
In a new development, Gina Coda - an expert in marketing and entertainment - also spoke out about the "Best Asian Pop Performance" category, a new category announced by the Grammys in June.
According to Gina Coda, she is one of the supporters of the establishment of this category with the goal of expanding recognition opportunities for Asian artists. She believes that this is not a separation between Asian artists and international artists, but a step to increase the representation of the region's music on the Grammy stage.
She also expressed regret when BTS decided not to participate in this year's season. According to her, because this is the first year of application, the new category is difficult to avoid limitations. At the same time, artists can still submit works to general pop categories if they fully meet the criteria of the organizers.
Previously, Grammy announced the addition of a category for pop works using one or more Asian languages. The new regulation was announced only about two months before the deadline for receiving applications for the award, causing many opinions to say that the preparation time of artists is quite tight.
Notably, "Swim" - the title track in BTS's album "Arirang" - is performed entirely in English. Therefore, after the new category was launched, a part of fans expressed concern about the judging criteria and the competitiveness of artists oriented to operate in the global market.
On July 29, BTS announced that they would not submit any works to the 2027 Grammys. The group said they want music to be evaluated based on artistic value instead of being divided by language or region.
In response, Grammy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. expressed regret for BTS's decision. He affirmed that the Asian pop category was created to honor the diversity of music in the region, not to limit artists. According to him, participating in this category does not affect competition opportunities in pop categories or Grammy's main awards.
