Change to catch up with trends
In order to catch up with the development speed of the modern music industry, Grammy 2027 has relaxed many core regulations. The organizers decided to increase the number of applications submitted in the "Best New Artist" category from 3 to 4 times, reflecting the reality of the process of shaping and approaching the public of young faces today.
At the same time, the album review condition was also reduced from 75% to 66% of new material (new original songs), creating opportunities for products containing many remixes or live recordings not to be unfortunately eliminated.
The new Grammy rules also recognize that albums only released online are now eligible to compete in the categories "Best Album Title" and "Best Historical Album".
Notably, musicians composing new songs in award-winning albums will receive a direct yellow trumpet, establishing equal rights with producers and sound engineers.
To enhance professionalism, the Grammy introduced a new voting system called Ballot Plus. Instead of the traditional limited structure, members with expertise verified in many categories can choose to vote up to 15 categories based on their actual contributions.
In addition to upgrading the in-depth voting system and increasing the right to receive the golden statue for musicians, Grammy 2027 also adds 5 new categories belonging to Latin music, R&B, folk and Pop genres.

What is the strategy for BTS to compete for the award?
The appearance of the Asian Pop category is assessed by experts as a progressive and practical move. This is a systematic recognition of the global influence of "golden continent" music after many years of physical record sales boom and continuous dominance in prestigious charts such as Billboard.
Establishing a separate award helps Asian artists have a dedicated space to compete fairly at the most prestigious music award on the planet.
This change took place right at the time BTS just reappeared with all 7 members after completing military service. Previously, BTS had 3 consecutive years (2021-2023) receiving nominations in the category "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance" but had not yet been able to touch the golden trumpet. The addition of a separate category is expected to help the group increase the probability of winning their first Grammy award in their career.
However, the new rules of the organizers also pose a complex strategic problem when stipulating that works participating in this category must use native languages clearly.
Reality shows that the hits that once caused BTS to explode in the US market before, such as "Dynamite" or "Butter", are all performed purely in English. According to the new law, if K-pop artists continue to release songs in English to optimize their radio ability and reach Western audiences, they will not be within the scope of censorship of the Asian Pop category.
Conversely, if prioritizing the use of Korean to take advantage of the new category, breaking into the core common categories of an indigenous American award will require much stricter and more complex competitive strategies.
The reform law of the 2027 Grammys brings a more diverse and open appearance to the global music market. For world-class forces like K-pop, this is both a launchpad and a brain test, forcing entertainment corporations and leading artists to carefully consider between the goal of preserving identity and international orientation in the future.
