According to confirmation from a representative of Indio City (California, USA) to Billboard, the organizer of the Coachella music festival - Goldenvoice - faces a total fine of over 40,000 USD (about 1 billion VND) for violating the closing time regulation - a regulation that has been applied since the festival was held here since 1999.
While the first weekend was on time, Coachella's second weekend this year was overtime for two days. Specifically, on Friday evening (April 17), Anyma's midnight performance lasted until 1:09 am, causing the festival to be fined $24,000. On Saturday evening (April 18), Justin Bieber's main performance was overtime for another 2 minutes, fined another $25,000.
According to a long-term agreement with the Indio city government, Coachella must end at 1 am on Friday and Saturday evenings, and 0 am on Sunday. If exceeded, the fine is 20,000 USD for the first 5 minutes, and will increase further if extended.
This is not the first time Coachella has been fined for overtime. In 2009, Paul McCartney performed overtime for 54 minutes, causing Goldenvoice to pay a fine of 54,000 USD. Last year, Travis Scott overtimed for 3 minutes, also causing the festival to be fined 20,000 USD. In 2024, Lana Del Rey's performance cost the organizers 17,000 USD.
Notably, in 2023, Goldenvoice was fined more than 168,000 USD when a series of artists such as Bad Bunny, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, Skrillex, Fred Again and Four Tet all performed overtime.
Meanwhile, Justin Bieber's music is strongly returning to the charts thanks to the explosive effect from Coachella.
The male singer currently has a total of 7 albums simultaneously in the Billboard 200 chart - the highest level in his career, and leading is the return to the top 10 of the album "SWAG".
All 7 albums increased by at least 100% in terms of converted sales (including album sales, individual song purchases and streaming), according to data from Luminate.
Justin Bieber's album "SWAG" rose from number 55 to number 7 with 43,000 units sold (up 160%), mainly thanks to streaming - reaching 42,000 SEA units (up 158%), equivalent to 41.48 million on-demand listens (including regular and deluxe SWAG II).
According to international media, Justin Bieber's two performances at the Coachella 2026 festival attracted more than 10 billion views on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok platforms.
On Instagram Coachella, Justin Bieber's video set a record for the highest number of views in festival history with 162 million views.
Previously, information that Justin Bieber was the highest-paid artist in Coachella's history with 10 million USD, surpassing Beyoncé and Ariana Grande, caused a stir.
