12th grade students are speeding up reviewing, consolidating knowledge, racing against time to improve scores and increase admission opportunities.

Focus on reviewing, maximizing the advantages of admission consideration

The 2026 high school graduation exam schedule will take place from June 10 to June 12. In which, on June 11 and June 12, candidates will officially take the exam.

Realizing that there are less than 2 months left for reviewing, Le Minh Thu - a 12A4 student at Le Quy Don High School (Hanoi) - is speeding up exam preparation. The female student is taking 4 subjects: Math, Literature, English and Physics. According to her, this is a choice that creates many advantages because she can consider 2 combinations D01 and A01, which are the admission combinations of many schools.

“I am quite worried about Math and Physics because they are not my strengths. Currently, I am taking extra classes on these 2 subjects to be oriented to study more effectively. At the same time, setting a goal to practice questions daily, creating a habit of doing the test like during the actual exam time” - Minh Thu confided.

Although she has an IELTS 7.5 certificate and achieved 104 points in the Aptitude Assessment (HSA) exam, the female student still does not neglect her preparation for the high school graduation exam. She sees these as advantages for herself when applying.

Nguyen Phan Ha Anh - a 12D1 student at Viet Duc High School (Hanoi) - is also planning to study, focusing on the exam subjects in the D01 combination for admission to economics and communication majors.

Instead of memorizing lessons in the traditional way, female students focus on practicing skills and thinking in doing the test. Practicing questions helps her gain more experience in solving types of questions and adapting to real-time pressure.

With the number of exam subjects being 4 subjects, less than before, requiring deeper investment in each subject is completely reasonable. Current exam questions require students to change their learning methods because they are leaning towards application and situation handling abilities" - Ha Anh shared.

In the "final sprint" phase, Nguyen Thi Minh Thu - a 12A1 student at Luong The Vinh High School (Hanoi) - is also actively reviewing to break through scores and increase competitive advantage.

I am reviewing the weak knowledge to promptly compensate. At the same time, I am shifting my focus to reviewing, focusing on application problems in natural science subjects and strengthening thematic practice, updating current affairs in social science subjects" - the female student said.

Having certificates such as SAT, IELTS and the excellent student award, Minh Thu is still determined to review to increase her chances of admission. She also participated in the Aptitude Assessment (HSA) exam to have more choices when applying.

Review with focus and need to understand the essence

In the last 2 months of review, teachers advise students to combine consolidating knowledge and practicing questions, but the important thing is not the quantity but the quality of review.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu - head of the Math - Informatics team, Phung Khac Khoan High School (Hanoi) - shared that instead of doing many questions mechanically, students need to delve into each question, understand the nature of each type of question. Reality shows that practicing few questions but firmly grasping knowledge will be more effective than doing many without careful analysis.

Current teaching does not focus on tricks, because it is difficult to promote effectiveness with the new exam structure. The most important thing is that students understand the nature and know how to approach the problem" - teacher Hieu emphasized.

According to teacher Hieu, for Mathematics, students should systematize knowledge according to topics, prioritize the foundational part to "keep points", and then gradually improve it. In particular, it is necessary to practice reading and analyzing questions, especially for types of questions with practical elements and many data points.

From a management perspective, Mr. Vu Ngoc Thanh - Vice Principal of Phung Khac Khoan High School (Hanoi) - said that for groups of students with poor academic performance, the school can organize separate tutoring and strengthen support through coordination between subject teachers and homeroom teachers. From there, promptly monitor the review situation of students.

In addition to reviewing, students need to soon determine their abilities and career orientation to choose suitable subject combinations and aspirations in the context of many changes in the enrollment regulations.

The important thing is that students must clearly understand their abilities, set appropriate goals to improve their chances of admission" - teacher Thanh emphasized.

Teachers also remind students to allocate review time reasonably between subjects, avoid studying lopsidedly or focusing all time on their strengths. In addition, students need to maintain a stable learning rhythm and reasonable rest to maintain concentration during the exam preparation phase and when entering the exam room.
