My Anh sees herself as a combination of experiences, people and emotions that have passed through life, thereby gently building her own color in music.
Lao Dong reporter had a conversation with My Anh to share about her musical orientation and personal identity in art.
My Anh has planned to organize a solo tour "Phases of the Moon" in 3 US cities: Houston, Santa Ana and New York in September. Can this be called an ambitious plan for a young female singer like My Anh?
- I think the word "ambition" seems a bit too big for me. This is one of the turning points in my music journey.
I really want to bring my music to audiences not only in Vietnam, but also in many different countries.
Last year, I also had the opportunity to perform in 6 new countries. The US tour is a continuation of that journey and I am very excited.

In 2025, My Anh released the EP "Phases of the Moon" with 6 songs in English composed by you yourself. The EP brings a very unique and personality-filled music color of My Anh. This time coming to the US, what kind of musical portrait do you want to bring?
- The album "Phases of the Moon" itself, I was inspired by the journey to overcome a breakup. The message is personal, but because of that, the color of the album is somewhat sad. But that is not the color of the whole show.
In addition to the songs in "Phases of the Moon", I will also bring songs from my previous albums. And I will also reveal a few unreleased songs, so I think the performance night will be very fun.
When listening to "Letting Go" and My Anh's compositions, behind the gentleness, people can see strong emotions and the desire to overcome pain and hurt in love. Are those comments true for you?
- I think it's true. The EP "Phases of the Moon" has 6 songs, and 6 songs are 6 stages after heartbreak.
The song "Letting Go" is the second song. I think that after ending a love story, I will feel okay but not too okay, that is, I will appear very strong and will overcome it.
That's why I chose that song as the second song in the EP. "Letting Go" talks about me appearing strong but inside there are much more complex emotions than that and are exploited in later songs.
My Anh started singing from a young age, since appearing on television and singing "Bring rice to mother to plow" with her mother, singer My Linh. How can My Anh's journey of maturity in music be described?
- I think it's a bit difficult to describe my journey, but perhaps like the journey of many people, I always look for myself, explore and try new things.
For me, what I feel very proud of is that I always try my best to be myself, to do things that I feel are right.
I think in anyone's journey, in parallel with the information that I put on social networks, the things I share with everyone, there will always be feelings of confusion.
Many times, I doubt whether I am doing the right things or not, but I think those are all very necessary emotions and let me know that I am thirsty enough, loving enough and caring enough. I think so.

As the daughter of very famous artists such as singer My Linh and musician Anh Quan, do you feel pressure on your path to adulthood or in your artistic path?
- Whether I answer this question when I was 19 or 24, or even 30, 40, I think my answer will always be the same.
I feel very happy to be my parents' child, that is the biggest emotion. And I consider pressure to be inevitable, it is very natural. If I am not pressured about this, I will be pressured about another.
I try not to take that too seriously. It's just a very natural thing. I don't try to escape the shadow of my parents as people often imagine.
Most importantly, I feel lucky because I have people around me who share with me, not only in work but also in personal life, there are people who understand me and I have also learned a lot from them.
So this is still and will always be my answer: pressure is there but it is not as negative as people think.
If she could say something truly sincere to her parents and siblings before a big plan about to be implemented, what would My Anh say?
- Thank you everyone, thank you family, thank you brothers and sisters for always supporting and listening to my music. I am very grateful and will always try to continue making music and to cultivate myself.
For this tour in the US, I will try to film as much as possible to post to everyone to accompany and follow me in this process. I believe this will be a very new and interesting journey.
Thank you everyone very much and please look forward to My Anh's new music.
