The World Press Photo organization has temporarily suspended recording Nick Ut as the author of the photo " Napalm Baby" after 5 months of investigation.
" Napalm Baby" is one of the world's most famous press photos, winning the World Press Photo of the Year Award in 1973.
The Guardian reported that the decision to suspend only applies to the copyright of the photo and does not cancel the World Press Photo Award of 2013.
Because "the World Press Photo Award for the Napalm Baby photo of an important moment in the history of the 20th century is still a truth".
Photo of a Vietnamese girl named Phan Thi Kim Phuc, fleeing a napalm bomb attack in Trang Bang, Tay Ninh in 1972, The moment Kim Phuc was burned by napalm bombs, crying and fleeing the fire after the fierce bombing exposed the truth about the war that the US is waging in Vietnam.
The New Statesman voted Napalm Baby as the most impressive news photo of all time.
When widely published, the photo created a shock across the world, while contributing to awakening humanity's consciousness about the US war in Vietnam.
Vanity Fair commented: "The scene was so primitive - a girl without clothes and 4 other children fleeing in pain and panic, running past men in military uniforms; the dark sky with endless bomb clouds - that the photo had existed for decades as a symbol of protesting war".
As soon as it was published, the photo " Napalm Baby" appeared on the front page of more than 20 leading American daily newspapers, causing public opinion around the world to strongly protest the US military's anxiety war.
The New York Post luan, affirmed: The photos of those children will never leave the mind of anyone who has seen them.
The crimes of the US military in Trang Bang were even mentioned in the 1972 presidential campaign when Democratic candidate George McGovern mentioned the photo of " Napalm Baby" in his speech on television. He claimed that the napalm bomb that caused Kim Phuc to suffer severe burns had been "thrown down in the name of the United States".
According to CNN, " Napalm Baby" is haunting because it captures the scene of children suffering in war, and the horrifying effects of napalm. Napalm is a type of bomb that explodes and breaks into many pieces, releasing burning thick napalm (the name comes from the naphthenic and palmitic acids in the bomb). The bomb burned at temperatures ranging from 800 to 1,200oC, burning everything within the blast range.
Therefore, many people believe that the photo has promoted the end of the war and caused the American public to strongly and more deeply oppos the war.
After many years, the baby Kim Phuc in the photo has become a woman who actively fights for peace. She became the Ambassador of Science and Technology for Peace of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UN UNESCO).
Kim Phuc International Charity Fund was established to help children victims of war and poor children around the world.
The story of "baby Napalm" once again moved conscience and affection for the whole world. Kim Phuc became a prototype for the writer Denise Chong to write the book "The Girl in the Picture", the book in the list of nominations for the literary award of the Governor of Canada.
In 2003, all proceeds from the famous "The Girl in the Picture" performances of Belgian composer Eric Geurts were transferred to the Kim Phuc international charity fund.
"Baby Napalm" is a shock to humanity, helping to expose the meaninglessness of war, but at the same time becoming a beautiful symbol of love and forgiveness.
