At 4:00 p.m. on October 31 (Vietnam time), Korean singer G-Dragon released the single "Power" and the official MV on YouTube.
This song marks G-Dragon's return as a solo artist after 7 years, since the EP "Kwon Ji Yong" released in 2017.
“Power” has a vibrant melody and sharp lyrics in G-Dragon's signature hip-hop style. The song is an affirmation of the Big Bang leader's courage and confidence, overcoming all pressure and judgment from the media and the public.
G-Dragon also made a statement, he is a "rare item of Gen 2" and music is his greatest strength.
Notably, the MV "Power" was filmed using one-shot technique, where the camera continuously moves following G-Dragon without cuts to transition scenes.
In the MV, G-Dragon goes through symbolic spaces representing different areas of the entertainment industry.
There were many employees covered from head to toe in red suits, not revealing their faces. This scene was similar to the media or netizens, giving information and judgments without revealing their identities.
Just 1 hour after its release, the song "Power" rose to the top of many music charts in Korea. The song ranked Top 2 on Melon, Top 1 on Bugs and Top 2 on Genie.
With the No. 1 spot on Bugs, G-Dragon broke the Perfect All-Kill streak that the song “APT.” by Rose (Blackpink) and Bruno Mars had occupied for 106 hours, since October 27.
“Power” is also the only song in 2024 to debut on the Flo chart (No. 40) after just the first hour.
In addition, "Power" recorded 83,313 unique listeners on Melon after 1 hour of release, becoming the highest-achieving song from 2021 to date, surpassing "OMG" by NewJeans (72.5 thousand listeners).
On China's QQ Music platform, "Power" was certified Platinum for selling 250,000 copies within 1 hour and 15 minutes of release.
