Joy News 24 magazine recently conducted a survey from September 30 to October 8, related to many contents of the Korean entertainment industry such as TV dramas, movies, actors, singers... in 2024.
200 industry workers, including employees of entertainment companies and broadcasters, film and television content producers, as well as entertainment reporters, participated in the survey.
In the poll for worst TV series of the year, “Queen Woo” starring Jeon Jong Seo, Ji Chang Wook, Jung Yumi led with 39 votes.
“Queen Woo” is a TV platform original drama set in the Goguryeo Kingdom, telling the story of Queen Woo Hee (Jeon Jong Seo), who becomes the target of five clans seeking power and princes fighting for the throne after the sudden death of King Go Nam Moo (Ji Chang Wook). Queen Woo must find a successor within 24 historical hours.
This is TVing's first attempt at a historical drama with a production cost of 30 billion won, so the drama was highly anticipated before its release.
However, when “Queen Woo” was released, it was met with controversy. The film faced accusations of distorting history. Many people said that the characters’ costumes and hairstyles did not accurately reflect the Goguryeo period, but rather resembled Chinese-style costumes.
In addition, “Queen Woo” has too many hot scenes, especially revealing the skin of the female actors, even though the film's content wants to promote the strong spirit of the central female character.
Audiences commented that "Queen Woo" wasted the acting of Jeon Jong Seo and Ji Chang Wook, as well as other actors.
Revenge film “The Escape of the Seven” was voted the second worst film of the year, with 37 votes. “Beauty And Mr Romantic” came in third with 28 votes.
“Love Next Door” ranked 4th with 13 votes. “Gyeongseong Creature” ranked 5th with 9 votes, and “Sweet Home 3” ranked 6th with 8 votes.
“Love Next Door,” “Gyeongseong Creature,” and “Sweet Home 3” are films that feature famous young actors, but the results are not as expected.
“Love Next Door” and its two main actors Jung Hae In and Jung So Min continuously top the charts of most notable films and TV actors, but this film has been embroiled in many controversies regarding its content and dialogue.
