On the evening of December 4, the keyword "Trieu Vy mourns Quynh Dao" climbed to the top of entertainment news trends on China's social network Weibo.
On her personal Weibo account, Zhao Wei wrote: "The Yangtze River flows to the east, the white-capped waves carry heroes, prosperity and decline follow the flow, the majestic foundation suddenly becomes empty-handed. The green mountains are forever intact, the red afternoon light endures forever."
According to the media, Zhao Wei took the first part of the poem "Lin Jiang Xian" by poet Yang Shen, which is also the opening lines of the novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", to commemorate the late writer Qiong Yao.
The poem "Bao do anh chieu hong" is also the title of a novel of the same name by Quynh Dao published in 1964, later adapted into many movies and television series.
Zhao Wei's move caused a stir because it has been more than 3 years since she returned to social media. The actress's last post on Weibo was in August 2021.
At that time, Trieu Vy disappeared from the entertainment industry after news that she was "banned" (banned from broadcasting, restricted from artistic activities).
Chinese authorities did not announce the reason, but all of Zhao Wei's films were removed from platforms, her name was also removed from film awards portals, and brands Zhao Wei collaborated with deleted the actress's advertising posts.
Zhao Wei broke the rules and posted a tribute to the late writer Quynh Dao, because she can be considered someone who indirectly contributed greatly to her brilliant career.
The success of the films “Princess Pearl” and “New River of Separation”, adapted from the novels by Qiong Yao, has made Zhao Wei a top star on the Chinese screen. She is ranked among the “Four Great Dan Actresses” of China, along with Xu Jinglei, Zhou Xun and Zhang Ziyi.
In addition to Trieu Vy, the two "Little Swallows" (Tieu Yen Tu) in other versions of "Hoan Chau Cach Cach" also posted to express their gratitude to Quynh Dao.
Actress Huang Yi, who played Xiao Yanzi in "Princess Pearl" 2003, wrote a condolence message: "I will always remember her and bravely move forward with the love and strength she gave me.
I was so lucky to have her in this mortal world, living a vibrant and unfettered life. Now that she is gone, I will miss her forever.”
Actress Li Sheng, who played Xiao Yan Zi in the 2011 version of "New Princess Pearl," wrote: “I still can't believe it. It's too late to say goodbye, but you pulled me out of the mud, gave me the shock of love, and now you let me know what death is. But I can't tell you these things anymore. You are my light... I miss you so much.”
Actors Huang Xiaoming, Fan Bingbing, Ruby Lin, Su Youpeng and many other Chinese stars have also expressed their gratitude and condolences over the passing of the late writer Qiong Yao.
