Recently, the image of singer Ung Hoang Phuc and his wife Vo Kim Cuong sitting on a boat delivering gifts, instant noodles, and necessities to people in Phuc Tan area (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi) was shared on social networks and received a lot of criticism.
The reason comes from the fact that Ung Hoang Phuc and his companions had prepared cameras and recording equipment to record.
One of the group even signaled Ung Hoang Phuc to go to a deeper flooded area to film. Specifically, in the video, a voice said: "Everyone stand far away so the water can get deeper. Stand deep in the water, go all the way over there. The machine starts running at 3 2 1."
The professional filming and photography, with careful preparation, caused the male singer to be criticized for "pretending" and "creating an image" mainly, and that charity work was just an excuse.
Besides, there are also opinions that singer Ung Hoang Phuc and his wife chose the charity location inappropriately and without careful research.
Some people said that the area where the male singer went to provide relief was only flooded up to his knees. In general, the conditions of the people in Phuc Tan area have not yet reached a state where they need to provide food and necessities.
The charity work of Ung Hoang Phuc and his wife, mainly for filming and taking photos, is considered a clumsy comedy.
Regarding this incident, speaking with Lao Dong reporter, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Nam - (graduated in Clinical Psychology from Vanderbilt University, USA), currently Vice President of the University of Education - Vietnam National University, Hanoi - said: "I think that going to relief work basically shows the heart of supporting each other when facing difficult circumstances. But when everyone is focusing on relief activities, many people take advantage of this event to increase the community's attention to themselves, as well as to make profits.
All of these phenomena are condemnable because they deviate from social ethics and social expectations. Behind seemingly charitable acts, there may be other purposes such as showing off, promoting oneself, trying to show off values that one does not have... to receive attention and recognition from society, thereby also being able to fulfill other purposes."
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Nam added: "Personally, I do not condemn your actions of supporting areas near where you live, or doing charity work in places that are not too damaged.
I don't condemn, if they really have urgent needs there, need help and you go there, meet their needs, create new value for them, because each person has their own circumstances.
But if that person sets a goal of doing charity to promote images, filming, taking photos... then this is related to the level of cultural cultivation of the individual, even the level of civilization of the people in that charity group.
Of course, when the community and society find out, they will be condemned. We ourselves also need to have ways to combat such phenomena."
