Recently, on the Korean online community Pann Nate, a post titled " Baby Monster is in big trouble" attracted the attention and discussion of netizens.
The poster wrote: "It's difficult for Baby Monster to swallow the domestic fandom cake, because the current 4th generation music groups are too active, and in the end they have to target foreign fans. But now the fame from Blackpink that Baby Monster enjoys will probably be transferred to MEOVV" - referring to the upcoming girl group of The Black Label, the company run by producer Teddy.
This person added: “MEOVV's image is also very suitable. Meanwhile, even though Baby Monster is promoted as "Blackpink's little sister" group, it doesn't look very compatible.
MEOVV just looks like the younger sister group Blackpink. They create a really crazy aura, so perhaps being a luxury brand ambassador will also have great potential."
On August 21, The Black Label company introduced the first member of the girl group MEOVV - 16-year-old female idol Ella Gross .
Ella was born in 2008 and is no longer a strange name in the Kpop fan community. She signed a contract with The Black Label (then a subsidiary of YG Entertainment) at the age of 10 (2018).
This Korean - German - American girl has developed a child modeling career since the age of 7, modeling for a series of famous brands such as Zara, Levi's, Lacoste, GAP, H&M, Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas, Abercrombie & Fitch, OshKosh B'gosh….
She also appeared on fashion catwalks and some famous magazines. Ella was also praised by the media as "the most beautiful child model in the world".
But what attracts a lot of attention is Ella's close relationship with YG Entertainment artists, especially Blackpink. Photos of her together with Blackpink were spread on social networks, Ella even appeared on Blackpink's livestream.
The female idol is also known as "little Jennie" or "little sister Jennie" because she has many similarities with the voice of "You & Me".
In Baby Monster, Ahyeon was also called by the media as "little Jennie" or "Jennie copy". But when Ella Gross appeared, many people thought that she was really "little Jennie", not Ahyeon.
Similar to the title "Blackpink's younger sister", many viewers agree that MEOVV deserves this title more than Baby Monster.
Because MEOVV was created and directed by producer Teddy in terms of music and images. This is similar to Blackpink, the group's music is mostly produced by Teddy, which is also the element that creates Blackpink's identity.
While Baby Monster was helmed by executive producer Yang Hyun Suk, Teddy was not involved.
Baby Monster is also facing a big challenge when the group's songs are not received by the public as expected. Without the "music wizard" Teddy, Baby Monster's products were considered unattractive and failed to promote the YG identity of previous girl groups, 2NE1 and Blackpink.
Some other opinions say that MEOVV has only just launched its first members so it cannot be evaluated overall. We need to wait for the group's official lineup and music products, then we can determine whether MEOVV is really "Blackpink's little sister" or not.
