Recently, record label Capitol Records said they had signed a contract with Kpop girl group MEOVV, collaborating with The Black Label company , even before this girl group debuted.
In preparation for MEOVV's launch, The Black Label has revealed a teaser image of their sleek new headquarters in Seoul occupied by five giant cats.
After signing the contract, Capitol Records also had a similar way of promoting the group with images of black cats roaming on the roof of the Capitol Records building in Hollywood.
MEOVV, The Black Label's first girl group, will be produced by label founder and mega-producer Teddy Park - known as a "music wizard" who played a key role in the success of Big Bang, 2NE1, Blackpink and many other artists.
To date, 4/5 MEOVV members have been revealed, namely Ella Gross (2008), Gawon (2005), Sooin (2005), and Anna (2005). The group is expected to officially debut in September.
Meanwhile, Capitol Records is one of the major American record labels, producing albums by many famous artists such as Doechii, Ice Spice, J Balvin, Kali Uchis, Katy Perry, Maggie Rogers, Niall Horan, Sam Smith, The Beatles, Yeat, Young Miko…
It is not new for Kpop artists, groups and Kpop companies to sign contracts with American record labels. Blackpink once signed a contract with Interscope Records, HYBE Labels group (managing BTS, Seventeen, NewJeans, LE SSERAFIM, ILLIT...) signed a music distribution agreement with Universal Music Group...
But very few Kpop groups sign contracts with American record labels before debut. SM Entertainment's RIIZE was a rare group to sign a contract with RCA Records before releasing their debut single.
The Black Label's move shows the company's investment and expectations for their first girl group, MEOVV.
