There are still many doubts
Mopius is the first “shot” of Say Hi Brother, gathering many young, enthusiastic faces with many fans. The lineup includes Jsol, Quang Hung MasterD, Duong Domic, Hurrykng, releasing the opening song “Lan Thuong Tien”. This product is easy to listen to, the melody is cheerful, the MV image makes the most of the members’ good-looking appearance.
Despite having a star cast like Quang Hung MasterD or Duong Domic with a large audience, having reached Top 1 YouTube Trending, the highest ranking of "Priority Lane" is Top 5. The individual fan groups of the 4 singers still operate mainly separately, not joining forces to increase Mopius' influence.
Meanwhile, Mopius will have to face a strong opponent, B.O.F, who was born from the show Call Me by Fire. Overall, members Jun Pham, S.T Son Thach, BB Tran, Bui Cong Nam and Kay Tran are considered to have higher recognition and longer-standing fan bases than Mopius. When B.O.F announced their debut, they received great interaction and were anticipated by the audience.
The decision to once again join the band is surprising. They were members of 365 - the most successful boy band following the idol singer model in Vietnam, but also disbanded after 5 years of activity.
However, the singers themselves shared that the reason for forming B.O.F was to realize their desire to work in a group. This means that this is not a long-term project, and can disband when they cannot maintain resources or cannot agree on the direction of activities among the 5 people.
Therefore, the public's attitude towards music groups gathering stars is still skeptical. Many questions are raised when the Vietnamese market has never been a fertile land for the music group model...
The band model struggled for many years.
LUNAS and VibeQueens are two groups that came out of Sister Who Makes Wave season 1. While VibeQueens went in an experimental direction, focusing on expertise, LUNAS had trouble because it could not solve the problem of audience tastes. Trang Phap's compositions for LUNAS were not attractive, the lyrics and content were still forced.
Talking about LUNAS, music producer ViruSs advised the 5 “Sisters” to take vocal lessons because they lack professional skills. When listening to the group’s debut song, ViruSs frankly commented: “Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc, Diep Lam Anh or Huyen Baby are not professional singers, do not have much vocal technique so their singing and rapping are not good; and Khong Tu Quynh has a ballad singing style, which is not suitable for the rhythm of Moonlight”.
LUNAS's musical material is not yet familiar to the audience, so the group is not active, not invited to perform much despite the heat from Sister Who Makes Wave season 1. VibeQueens with Phuong Vy and Luu Huong Giang is a temporary collaboration project, not developed for long-term operation.
Many boy bands like D1Verse, Zero9, T.A.S, Uni5, LipB, Lime, SGO48... were trained and invested in systematically but all disbanded before becoming known to the public.
In fact, Vietnamese audiences love Kpop, this music genre has had a profound influence on audiences and the singers in the group. Hurrykng, Duong Domic, Trang Phap, Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc and many trainees who debuted in Vietnam were inspired by Korean idols. Therefore, many times, Vietnamese music groups have caused controversy for plagiarism from image to songs, and have been commented to be similar to Kpop groups.
Looking back at the music groups that have appeared in Vietnam, they all struggled to survive and fell into a state of guessing the audience's taste. With the stagnation of LUNAS - a girl group that has made many improvements in the history of Vietnamese music, the future of B.O.F and Mopius becomes unpredictable, and it is clear that they are completely capable of sadly disbanding like many Vietnamese music groups before.
