The appeal of music series
At the end of this year, a series of large-scale concerts were held thanks to the widespread popularity of the two programs “Call Me by Fire” and “Anh trai say hi”. The number of tickets sold each night is about 15,000 - 20,000 but the audience still hunts for them in a short time. The figures are expected to increase when “Call Me by Fire” and “Anh trai say hi” bring concerts to the capital Hanoi.
These are telling numbers that show the coverage of 63 artists coming out of reality TV shows. On television, music entertainment shows such as “Our Songs” and “Rap Viet” also receive a lot of attention.
“Our Song” announced that episode 8 achieved Top 1 rating (viewership rate) on VTV3, according to data from Kantar Media; and “Call Me by Fire” also announced the highest rating in prime time of the week compared to other programs at the same time, all episodes aired have never left the Top 3.
"Rap Viet" returns with season 4, although it is no longer as popular as previous seasons, its YouTube views are still sky-high, constantly entering the trending Top, each video attracting millions of views.
Currently, “Sister Who Makes Wave” season 2 has entered the scene at a time when audiences are favoring reality TV shows featuring many famous singers. In recent months, the YouTube music trending chart has also recorded the dominance of the “older brothers”. During the broadcast period, no Vietnamese singer could win No. 1, including Vu, tlinh or Low G, who are strong in digital music achievements.
Music show affirms position
The appeal of music game shows in recent times has somewhat changed the landscape of reality TV shows. About 10 years ago, many famous music shows such as “Sao Mai”, “Giong hat Viet”, “Vietnam Idol” sadly left the stage because they could not maintain their popularity over many seasons. In recent years, entertainment programs in the style of variety shows or dating shows have become popular, such as “Chay di cho chi”, “Crack Them Up Vietnam”, “Nguoi a la ai”, “Ban muon hen ho” have attracted viewers and gone viral (trending) on many platforms.
There was a time when many players only needed to participate in "Who is that person" or "Perfect confession" to become famous, work as an influencer on TikTok, or switch to showbiz.
In 2023, “Sister Who Makes Wave”, “Vietnam Idol”, “Masked Singer” continuously left their mark, creating momentum for the audience to pay attention to music TV shows. “La ca hat ca”, “Bien cua hy hop”, “Xuan ha thu dong roi lai xuan” are also series following the direction of reality TV, filmed outdoors, with creative investment in each mix.
It was not until “Anh trai say hi” and “Call Me by Fire” directly faced each other that the fierce competition created an “explosion” for the music industry. Singers called anh trai and anh tai not only covered social networks and appeared at many music events, but also continuously created new records, taking turns “dominating” music charts or discussion levels.
After 3 years of being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the return of music TV shows shows that Vietnam's cultural and artistic performances have recovered and shown signs of improvement. The combination of entertainment and art will create diverse and rich products to serve audiences of all ages.
