Recently, Korean media reported that the long-awaited medical drama “Wise Resident Life” starring Go Yoon Jung has been canceled from its previously scheduled broadcast in the second half of this year.
The drama was scheduled to air on CJ E&M's tvN channel over the weekend, but has now been postponed indefinitely.
The reason is the ongoing medical strikes in South Korea.
After the South Korean government announced plans to significantly increase medical school enrollment to address the country's shortage of professional doctors, many doctors protested the policy by quitting their jobs en masse.
The Korean public is frustrated with the doctors' strikes and has a negative view of the medical profession in general, so airing a medical drama at this time would be disadvantageous.
CJ E&M initially pushed the film's broadcast schedule to late 2024. But now the producer and the TV station admit that it will be very difficult to arrange a release schedule for the film in the near future.
Previously, when tvN released the trailer for the film, it received many critical comments.
“Wise Resident Life” was also scheduled to be released on the online platform Netflix, if the show is canceled, CJ E&M may face penalties for breach of contract. This indirectly affects other future international distribution plans.
“Wise Resident Life” is a spin-off of the popular medical drama series “Hospital Playlist.” The main cast includes Go Yoon Jung, Shin Si Ah, Han Ye Ji, Kang You Seok, and Jung Joon Won.
Among them, Go Yoon Jung was once known as the beauty with the "diamond ratio" face, which is perfect, more beautiful than the golden ratio. Korean cosmetic surgeons believe that Go Yoon Jung's face is the new ideal model for cosmetic surgery.
Not only does she have outstanding beauty, Go Yoon Jung is currently one of the names expected to shine among the young generation of Korean actors.
This July, she won the Best New Actress award at the Blue Dragon Drama Awards for her role in the film “Moving.”
