As of the morning of January 30, Tran Thanh's film "The Four Guardians" has reached the 48 billion VND mark, with 5,588 screenings nationwide, according to data from Box Office Vietnam - an independent box office monitoring unit.
On January 29 (the first day of Tet), the film's revenue reached more than 43 billion VND, including tickets booked for the coming days. On the first day of release alone, the film earned more than 31.5 billion VND, becoming the Vietnamese film with the highest first-day revenue of all time.
"The Four Avengers" overwhelms "Love by Mistake" and "The Billionaire Kiss" in terms of revenue, screenings and theater occupancy rate. The film has more than 5,000 screenings per day.
Previously, the film also set another record as the Vietnamese film with the highest number of pre-ordered tickets of all time - 129,000 tickets before the official release date.
The other two Vietnamese films released during Tet had more modest revenue. "Billion Dollar Kiss" earned 4 billion VND and "Love by Mistake" only earned 1.4 billion VND. Foreign films also did not make a breakthrough in revenue.
By the morning of January 30, Thu Trang's film "The Billion Dollar Kiss" had earned 4.4 billion VND. In comparison, Tran Thanh's film's revenue is 10 times that of Thu Trang's film, even though "The Billion Dollar Kiss" was scheduled to have 1/3 the number of screenings as "The Four Guardians".
This year, Tran Thanh also participated in the production and became an investor for the second work released on the first day of Lunar New Year, "Love by mistake for a close friend". This is the Vietnamese version of the Thai movie "Friendzone" that made waves on Asian screens in 2019.
"The Four Guardians" tells the story from Kieu's (Uyen An) perspective about the rather favorable life of her best friend Quynh Anh (Tieu Vy) - a country girl who lost her parents, living in the coastal area with her aunt Bon (Le Giang) and uncle Muoi Mot (Tran Thanh).
Quynh Anh's life seemed "rosy" until she and her boyfriend Quoc Anh (Quoc Anh) moved in together as husband and wife.
After many years of living together, the relationship between Quoc Anh and Quynh Anh gradually cooled down.Quoc Anh "fell in love" with his partner Karen (Ky Duyen) - a successful and attractive woman.
The young couple's life was even more disrupted when the "quartet" Kieu, Uncle Muoi Mot, Aunt Bon and tarot fortuneteller Chet-xi-ca (Le Duong Bao Lam) continuously interfered and created "half-crying, half-laughing" situations.
The film also attracted attention thanks to the special guest cast, which were singers from the show Anh trai say hi. The appearance of Quan A.P, Ali Hoang Duong, Pham Anh Duy, Hung Huynh... attracted the attention of the audience, increasing the discussion for the film.
