This year's MAMA awards ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theater, Los Angeles (USA) on November 21 and the Kyocera Dome Stadium, Osaka (Japan) on November 22-23.
The MAMA 2024 judging criteria also changed in some important categories.
“Artist of the Year” and artist categories: 20% jury score, 40% streaming/download score (25% Korea + 15% global), 40% physical album sales.
“Song of the Year” and genre categories: 40% jury score, 60% streaming/download (40% Korea + 20% global).
“Album of the Year”: 40% jury rating, 60% physical album sales (of albums that sold at least 1 million copies).
“Best MV" and “Best Choreography": 100% judges' score.
To be eligible, the musical work must have been released between October 1, 2023 and September 30, 2024.
Thus, the most notable change in criteria is in the two Daesang categories Song of the Year and Album of the Year, when the judges' score is increased from 20% to 40%.
This change shows that MAMA is focusing more on the quality of music products, instead of mainly sales like before.
