In a conversation with Lao Dong reporter, musician Dong Thien Duc - known as a "hit maker" (the owner of many hot songs) such as " moi nguoi ta chi chong", " Ai chung tinh can mai", "Khoa lyric" ... frankly commented that AI music is attracting attention.
AI music has its own audience, but abusing AI will make artists regret.
- As a musician with many hits, in your opinion, why is AI music so easy to love by today's audiences?
- From my perspective, the audience likes it because... they are surprised. The feeling of Oh, so good? comes from their surprise when AI can do something in a few dozen seconds. I didn't think a technology could create a whole song in a very short time, with melody, harmony, lyrics and even singing voice.
The audience sometimes finds enjoying such a song strange. But to feel the love in it is almost non-existent. So I think AI music will go down very quickly.
- How much power do you predict that AI will still have and can it "threaten" musicians' work?
- In my opinion, AI will definitely create certain influences for music. But to say that AI can change or overwhelm Vietnamese music or world music, I believe not.
I see the development of AI as the difference between industrial production and handicrafts.
Personally, I still choose to compose by hand, because I love the feeling of putting emotions into each melody. And I believe that genuine music listeners will also like the songs I write like that more.
In the future, AI music will have its own audience, just like the current appearance of "AI artists", there will definitely be an audience of AI because AI is easy to do and easy to make money.
On the contrary, those who compose seriously and have a clear musical direction will also retain their loyal listeners.
AI music makes money easily, but makes artists truly regret.
Currently, some musicians let AI sing songs they composed instead of hiring singers. What is your view on this issue?
- I have to say this, there are usually only two reasons. One is that they lack the budget to hire singers. Two is that they are not "hot" enough or not patient enough waiting for the singer to receive and collect songs for them. But I told you the truth, being a musician without enough patience is the best not to do it.
There are also cases where musicians have psychological problems, such as losing faith in singers, not wanting to send songs to anyone else, so let AI sing quickly. But for me, it's not. I always want my song to be expressed by humans, because only humans have true thoughts and emotions.
I could have collected the demo myself, but I still spent a million and a half to hire a professional singer to sing the demo. Because I know that their voices and emotions will breathe new color into the song I just wrote.
And when the official master version is released, it will have a very beautiful color created by the artists together.
As for the case of a singer using AI to compose to save costs, how do you evaluate it?
- I have to say the truth about who did it, I'm 100% sure they will regret it for the rest of their lives. Because AI can never satisfy them.
I have researched AI very carefully, and have also tried using it. Because I am very good at information technology, I cannot miss this subject. And I affirm that AI never brings satisfaction to the profession.
The AI "hit" versions are actually just a form of winning the cabinet. Users cannot control the melody created by AI at all. So when a singer decides to let AI write music, they will have to create hundreds of copies, then choose.
But I'm sure they'll never be satisfied with that song. After a long time like that, I'm sure they will lose the feeling of singing music written by humans.
And then at some point, when they look back, they will realize that they have missed the most valuable thing that music brings, which is real emotions. And regret is inevitable.
