According to Korean media, the iconic drama of actor Kim Soo Hyun "My Love from the Star" was broadcast in South America for the first time.
Accordingly, Brazil's largest commercial TV station SBT began broadcasting the drama on the evening of June 2, marking its first official release in the region in 11 years since its first broadcast in Korea in 2013.
SBT explained its decision that: "The demand for Korean popular culture content in Brazil has increased dramatically." The network also revealed that they have created a specialized block of shows called Asian Production Line, with "My Love from the Star" chosen as the opening title.
After this announcement, Kim Soo Hyun fans left congratulations on SBT's official website and social media platforms. Many people are also creating advertising content to welcome the film being broadcast.
In addition to Brazil, the film is also attracting attention again in Asia. Recently, Taiwan's Korean entertainment channel Korea Entertainment TV (China) announced that they will rebroadcast "My Love from the Star", further proving the long-standing popularity of the film.
This international revival comes at a time when Kim Soo Hyun is facing personal controversy. There are allegations that he dated the late actor Kim Sae Ron when she was still a minor. Although he initially denied the relationship, he later admitted that they had a relationship after she grew up.
At a recent press conference, he explained his previous denial by saying, "I made that decision as a celebrity Kim Soo Hyun."
This situation has led to a lawsuit demanding compensation of about 5.8 billion won (about $4.2 million) in advertising refunds and damages from brands.
Despite the continued supervision of the law and the public, renewed interest in Kim Soo Hyun's previous works - especially the program that has been confirmed to air in Brazil and rebroadcast in Taiwan (China) - has fueled discussions about whether he can rebuild his presence through foreign markets.
