The 98th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on the evening of March 15 at the Dolby Theater, Los Angeles (USA), i.e., 5:30 am on March 16 (Vietnam time). This is an event honoring outstanding works and individuals of the film industry in the past year.
The highlight of this year's season is the movie "Sinners" directed by Ryan Coogler. The work received a total of 16 nominations, the highest number ever recorded in Oscar history. The film combines horror, crime and surnatural elements, set in the Southern United States in the 1930s.
In the Best Director category, Ryan Coogler will compete with Paul Thomas Anderson (One Battle After Another), Joachim Trier (Sentimental Value), Chloé Zhao (Hamnet) and Josh Safdie (Marty Supreme). This is one of the most balanced nominations of this season as each director owns a work that receives many positive reviews.
The Best Actor race also attracted attention with the participation of Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, Michael B. Jordan, Ethan Hawke and Wagner Moura.
Among them, Chalamet and Jordan are mentioned a lot thanks to previous pre-Oscar awards. The role in "Marty Supreme" helped Chalamet win the Critics' Choice Awards and the Golden Globes, while Michael B. Jordan was honored at the SAG Awards for his performance in "Sinners".
In the Best Actress category, Jessie Buckley is considered a prominent candidate thanks to her role in "Hamnet". Before the Oscars, the actress won many major awards such as SAG, BAFTA, Critics' Choice and Golden Globe.
The supporting acting categories also have notable competition. Teyana Taylor, Amy Madigan and Wunmi Mosaku are notable faces for Best Supporting Actress awards. On the south, Sean Penn, Delroy Lindo and Stellan Skarsgård are among the top candidates.
In addition to acting awards, many other works are also predicted to have the potential to win in important categories. "One Battle After Another" is highly appreciated in the Adapted Screenplay category, while "Sinners" has an advantage in the Original Screenplay category.
In Best International Film, two notable representatives are "Sentimental Value" of Norway and "The Secret Agent" of Brazil. Meanwhile, "KPop Demon Hunters" is being mentioned a lot in the Best Animated Film race.
The 2026 Oscar Awards ceremony will begin at 5:30 am on March 16 (Vietnam time). Vietnam Television will broadcast the program live at 6:30 am on VTV3 channel.
