Ministry of Education and Training awards certificate of merit to teacher who sacrificed herself to save student hit by truck

Teacher Hoang Thi Hien (Nghe An) was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Minister of Education and Training for bravely sacrificing herself to save a student hit by a truck.

On September 8, Deputy Minister of Education and Training (MOET) Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh visited and encouraged teacher Hoang Thi Hien, a teacher at Phu Son Kindergarten, Nghia Hanh commune, Nghe An province who is being actively treated at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital after a serious traffic accident when rushing out to rescue a student.

On behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh emotionally visited and praised the noble actions of teacher Hoang Thi Hien. Ms. Hoang Thi Hien is a bright example of courage, responsibility, and sacrifice for students.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh also said that Minister Hoang Minh Son decided to award a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training to teacher Hoang Thi Hien for this noble act.

Here, the Vietnam Education Union also visited, shared, and supported teacher Hoang Thi Hien with 20,000,000 VND.

Previously, in the afternoon of August 28, at Tan Lam satellite school point, Phu Son Kindergarten (Nghia Hanh commune, Nghe An), a 2-year-old boy suddenly ran out onto the road. Discovering a truck coming, teacher Hoang Thi Hien sacrificed herself to hug the child.

As soon as the baby was safely held, the truck ran over teacher Hien's legs. Teacher Hien was taken to Tan Ki Hospital by people for emergency treatment, then transferred to Nghe An 115 Hospital. Faced with the severe injury, the family took the teacher to Hanoi.

The doctor in charge of monitoring the case of teacher Hoang Thi Hien at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital said that the patient was admitted to the hospital early in the morning of August 29 in a state of severe pain, both feet bleeding profusely, the right leg was complicatedly crushed, tendons and bones were broken, and the fingertips were frozen. Immediately, the emergency surgical team cut off the crushed tissue, removed the foreign object, and fixed the bone with the highest hope of keeping the foot.

After 10 days of treatment, Ms. Hien's left leg is temporarily stable, but her right leg continues to become necrotic. She is expected to undergo several more surgeries. Doctors are working hard every day to preserve the remaining limb to the maximum.

Teacher Hoang Thi Hien's circumstances are very difficult. Teacher Hien is a single mother, raising two young children, the older one is 7 years old, the younger one is 4 years old. The incident happened, the two babies are currently with their maternal grandparents. The older sister and older brother have to quit their jobs to take turns taking care of Ms. Hien at the hospital.
