Attracting young people
Trips are now not simply exploration journeys but have become a source of career inspiration for many young people. In the context of Vietnam's tourism industry recovering growth after a difficult period due to the pandemic, the fields of services, hotels, and travel continue to attract the attention of students when choosing a major.
Nguyen Minh Duc - a student at Hanoi University - said that the development potential of the industry has made young people decide to pursue this field.
I realize that the tourism industry is developing very strongly. Especially for the French language market that I am studying, the current demand for human resources is quite large. This is an opportunity for students to compete and find suitable jobs after graduation" - Duc shared.
According to the male student, career opportunities in the tourism sector are very open, but to be able to stick with the profession for a long time, learners need to prepare carefully right from when they are still in school.
The most important thing is to have a good knowledge base. Not only knowledge about tourism but also foreign languages. In addition, students should actively improve soft skills, tour guiding, tour management, marketing or customer care skills to increase competitiveness" - Duc said.

Positive signals
Mr. Do Ngoc Anh - Director of the Communication and Enrollment Center, Hanoi Open University - said that majors related to tourism services are recording positive signals from the labor market.
Industries such as Tourism and Travel Service Management, Hotel Management have returned to developing very strongly after the pandemic. According to a school survey, the recruitment demand from businesses is currently very large" - Mr. Do Ngoc Anh said.
According to him, many students, even though they have not graduated, have the opportunity to access the labor market. "Currently, our students are only in their third year, but in some industries related to tourism and hotels, most of them have gone to work. This shows that the actual demand of businesses for human resources in this field is large," Mr. Do Ngoc Anh emphasized.
Not only creating many job opportunities, the tourism industry also brings a dynamic working environment, opportunities to communicate with many customer segments and the ability to develop careers in many different positions such as tour operators, tour guides, hotel managers, tourism marketing or customer care.

What businesses need
Besides the wide open opportunities, businesses also set more requirements for young human resources. According to Ms. Dinh Thi Lan Huong - Indochina Travel Expert Service and Tourism Co., Ltd., new graduates today still lack some important skills to adapt to the actual working environment.
From the reality of recruitment and human resource training, we see that many students still lack soft skills, especially communication skills, proactiveness and skills to handle situations arising in work" - Ms. Huong shared.
The tourism industry is a specific field, often in contact with customers and facing many different situations. Therefore, in addition to expertise, adaptability and proactive spirit are very important factors.
Experts also believe that in the context of tourism undergoing strong transformation along with the trend of digitalization, learners need to continuously update new knowledge, improve their foreign language proficiency and the ability to apply technology in work.
The strong recovery of the tourism industry is opening up many job opportunities for young people. However, the opportunity is only really for those who are seriously prepared, proactively learn and constantly improve themselves. This is both a challenge and a motivation for students to build a solid baggage before entering a competitive labor market.
