Ms. Thao Quynh, a parent whose child is entering 6th grade in the 2026-2027 school year in Binh Tan ward (HCMC), said that her child has been adjusted to a school near her house. Previously, this student was assigned to a school about 8-9 km from her residence.
After that, she went directly to the Culture - Society Department of Binh Tan Ward People's Committee to request consideration.
According to this parent, she brought the initial enrollment registration form and presented her wish to transfer her child to study at Ho Van Long Secondary School (a school near her house). The application was received and adjusted by officials on the same day.
Immediately after the information on the system was updated, she confirmed online enrollment and completed the application for her child at the new school.
Ms. Quynh believes that many parents in the same situation are anxious when the deadline for enrollment confirmation is approaching, while taking their children to school too far will cause many difficulties, especially for families of workers and migrant workers.
I was very surprised because the ward provided quick support. Parents encountering difficulties should proactively contact the school or the Department of Culture and Social Affairs for guidance," she shared.
According to Ms. Quynh, the reason for the wrong allocation of children to schools may stem from the fact that neighborhood information has not been updated accurately.
Similarly, Ms. Cao Thi Giau (Ben Cat ward), a worker renting a room in An Phuoc neighborhood, was also supported by the locality to rearrange the school for her child.
Ms. Giau said that before that, her son was assigned to Lai Hung Primary School, about 12 km from his residence.
After reporting to the local authorities, he was transferred to Luong The Vinh Primary School, only about 1 km from home.
According to Ms. Giau, being able to study near her residence helps the family conveniently pick up and drop off their children and significantly reduce travel costs.
According to Ben Cat Ward People's Committee, the locality has 8 primary schools but is still under great pressure due to rapidly increasing mechanical population, concentrating many industrial parks and migrant workers. Some schools lack classrooms, have to take advantage of functional rooms as classrooms, and are facing difficulties in terms of teaching staff and facilities repair costs.
The locality said that it has implemented many solutions to receive students, create conditions for workers' children to go to school, and at the same time continue to review and arrange in accordance with actual conditions.
Previously, from July 11, localities in Ho Chi Minh City simultaneously announced enrollment for the first grades of preschool, grade 1, grade 6 of the 2026-2027 school year.
This year is the first year that enrollment work takes place in the context of merging 3 localities (HCMC, Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau) and implementing 2-level local government, organized entirely online by HCMC, based on student identification codes.
The allocation of school places for students is implemented by Ho Chi Minh City not according to the administrative boundaries of the ward but based on the main criteria being the current residence of students according to the parents' VNeID, combined with GIS maps. Students are prioritized for allocating school places near their homes, creating convenience for student parents.
In the 2026-2027 school year, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to have more than 197,000 students entering grade 1 and about 185,000 students entering grade 6.
