The entrance exam for resident doctors of Hanoi Medical University is considered one of the most special and harsh exams for young doctors.

The program is for people who have just completed 6 years of formal university in Medicine, Dentistry, Traditional Medicine... Each doctor only has one exam, so the exam is often likened to a "crossing the Vu Mon gate" that can greatly affect their professional path later.

Hanoi Medical University started training resident doctors in 1974 and is the institution with the longest tradition in this field. The program lasts 3 years, focusing on in-depth training, closely linking theory with clinical practice at the hospital.

About more than 5,000 resident doctors have been trained, many of whom have later become leading experts and health management officials.

After the exam, admitted candidates are ranked by score to choose their majors one by one. People with high rankings are prioritized to choose first, while majors that are of interest may run out of targets very early.

With high competitiveness and each candidate having only one chance to take the exam, the resident doctor recruitment exam is likened by many to a selection of "essence of essence" in the medical industry.
