In the 2025-2026 school year, compared to the assigned staffing quota, Gia Lai province still lacks 1,479 teachers. Of which, there is a shortage of 812 preschools, 98 primary schools, 130 secondary schools, high schools and the Center for Continuing Education - Vocational Education, lacking 439 teachers. This situation affects the implementation of teaching work in the province.
After the merger, Gia Lai province has 135 communes and wards. Currently, the whole province has 144 civil servants in charge of the education sector at the commune level, but only 63 people have professional qualifications, not meeting the requirements of the task.
Many schools after the merger have a rapid increase in the number of students and many classes, affecting the quality of teaching and learning. Meanwhile, investment resources for education are still limited, the need to repair and upgrade facilities, add classrooms and teaching equipment is very large, but expanding land funds to build more classrooms is facing many difficulties.
The facilities in vocational training institutions are still lacking and not uniform among regions. In addition, in a large area, the proportion of ethnic minorities in the western area accounts for 46%, while commune-level cadres and civil servants have a pedagogical expertise of less than 50%. These are major challenges for the education sector.
Faced with the above situation, Mr. Pham Van Nam - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province - said that the Department has issued a recruitment plan to ensure the number of teachers according to the staffing quota, serving the teaching work at schools well. At the same time, many synchronous solutions have also been implemented such as mobilizing, signing guest lecturer contracts and promoting the socialization of education, gradually overcoming the shortage of human resources.
"Although the number of teachers is quite small, basic teaching work is still guaranteed, not much affected. The Department has a recruitment plan and will implement it as soon as possible to ensure both targets and quality, avoiding rushed and rushed recruitment," said Mr. Nam.
According to Mr. Nam, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province has decentralized and authorized the Department of Education and Training to preside over the recruitment of all unused staffing quotas, in order to meet the needs of the teaching staff for the 2025-2026 school year. Recruitment will be prioritized for teachers implementing the 2018 General Education Program, popularizing preschool education for children aged 3-5 years, teaching 2 sessions/day, as well as arranging for educational institutions in remote areas, ethnic minority areas, ensuring the principle of "where there are students, there must be teachers to teach".
