Bringing books to children
Every summer, many parents face a familiar worry: children are off school but parents still go to work, children easily spend more time on phones, electronic games, social networks. Along with that, the risk of injury, especially drowning, is always present in ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, and beaches during the hot season.
In that context, the Ha Tinh education sector chose a practical approach: organizing reading activities for students during the summer, bringing books closer to children in schools, villages and community activity points.
On May 28, 2026, the Ha Tinh Department of Education and Training issued Official Dispatch No. 1799 guiding the organization of reading activities for students in the summer of 2026. This activity aims to create a healthy playground, help students access knowledge, develop life skills, limit dependence on electronic devices and contribute to preventing accidents and injuries.
According to the guidance, reading activities must be appropriate to age psychology, ensure voluntariness, create excitement for students, and not cause study pressure during the summer.
Schools are required to promote the effectiveness of existing libraries, arrange time to open during the summer for students to come to read and borrow books. Models such as "green libraries", "classroom bookshelves" continue to be exploited, creating a reading space close and friendly to children.
Notably, Ha Tinh encourages the implementation of "Mobile Bookcases", "Books to Villages and Hamlets", coordinating with the Youth Union, the Teenagers' Team and local authorities to bring books to community cultural houses and summer activity points. Through this, students in rural and remote areas also have more opportunities to access books.
Linking reading with life skills

Along with reading activities, schools are encouraged to organize book storytelling, writing feelings, drawing illustrations, making short videos introducing books, dramatizing literary works; organizing programs such as "One Good Book per Week", "Summer Reading Festival", "Reading Culture Ambassador".
A noteworthy point is that summer reading activities are oriented to be associated with life skills. Schools choose suitable books on drowning prevention, self-protection skills, safe internet use, behavior in the family, school and community.
These books not only help students gain more knowledge, but also contribute to forming good habits and raising awareness of self-protection in daily life.
Ha Tinh Department of Education and Training also determined that summer reading activities are not only the school's private business. People's Committees of communes and wards are requested to coordinate in organizing and integrating reading activities with summer activities in the locality. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children to read books, manage the use of phones, tablets and electronic devices.
When books are brought to villages, cultural houses, and summer activity centers, children have more healthy choices during their holidays. Instead of just being around the phone screen, they can read together, tell stories together, and participate in creative activities from books.
Director of Ha Tinh Department of Education and Training Bui Nhan Sam shared: "A meaningful summer is not only about how much knowledge students learn, but also about how much more experience, joy and good habits they have. With this approach, the Ha Tinh education sector expects reading culture to become a natural part of students' summer life".
