On September 22, according to PV's investigation, Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee has just issued an urgent official dispatch to the Department of Education and Training and People's Committees of communes and wards requesting urging to continue enrollment in grade 10, strengthen the work of mobilizing students to class and maintain the number of students in the 2026 - 2027 school year.
Previously, the Provincial People's Committee approved and supplemented enrollment targets for 10th grade high school and continuing education with 9,787 students (approximately 96.8% of the total number of students completing the secondary school program in 2026).
Although localities have achieved 8,809 students admitted (reaching 90.01% of the assigned target), the situation of students not going to class after the opening ceremony is still complicated.
According to statistics as of September 16, 2026, the whole province recorded 8,032 students enrolled, reaching 91.3% compared to the number of admitted students.
Notably, there are still 767 students who have been admitted but have not yet attended classes (accounting for 8.7%) and 1,308 students who have completed secondary school and have not registered for admission (accounting for 13.6%).
Many localities have a relatively high enrollment rate but have not yet started classes, such as Pa U commune (40.4%), Nam So (34.8%), Nam Ma (27.8%), Si Lo Lau (23.7%).
Similarly, the rate of students who have not registered for admission in Pa U is up to 59.3%, Ta Tong 45.2%, Nam Cuoi 41.9%, Ban Bo 40.9% and Muong Khoa 39.6%.
Faced with this situation, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Education and Training to direct high schools and vocational and continuing education centers that do not have enough targets to urgently coordinate with localities to continue reviewing, mobilizing and organizing additional admissions.
At the same time, schools must immediately review the list of admitted students who have not yet enrolled, clearly identify the circumstances of each student to have measures to support and strictly manage the daily attendance to prevent the risk of early dropout.
For the People's Committees of communes and wards, provincial leaders requested to urgently establish working groups, specifically assign cadres to stick to each village, hamlet, and group of students who have not yet attended school.
The entire education sector and local authorities must drastically get involved, linking personal responsibility with the results of maintaining enrollment, ensuring the completion of enrollment targets and minimizing the situation of students dropping out of school.
