The Ministry of Education and Training requires not to assign targets imposed on scores, the ratio of good and excellent students to teachers to aim for "true teaching, true learning, true exams, true assessment".
This information received the attention of parents and students, as the failure to assign targets is expected to reduce the pressure of scores and achievements in schools.
Students hope to reduce academic pressure
Pham Bao Nhi - a 9th grade student in Dong Anh commune (Hanoi) - believes that not assigning targets that are imposing can help students reduce pressure in the learning process.
According to Bao Nhi, students in each class have different abilities and circumstances. If teachers have to ensure a certain percentage of achievements, teaching may be affected by common goals instead of focusing on the needs of each student.
What we need is to be guided and supported by teachers in the learning process and have the opportunity to improve our own results. Evaluation should also focus on the progress of each student" - Bao Nhi said.
Sharing the same view, Chu Pham Thanh Loan - a 10th-grade student at Kinh Do High School (Hanoi) - shared that student assessment should be based on the entire learning process instead of just looking at the final results.
According to Thanh Loan, each student has different abilities and strengths, so the goals for striving are not the same. Some students can get high scores in many subjects, but some students need more time to improve their results.
If you only look at scores or the number of good and excellent students, it may not fully reflect the learning process of each student. A student progressing from average to good is also an effort and needs to be recognized" - Thanh Loan shared.
The female student believes that when teachers are not under pressure to achieve a certain percentage of good and excellent students, teaching can be more focused on the actual abilities of each student. Students who are still limited in which subject will have more opportunities to be supported by teachers to improve.
According to Thanh Loan, scores are still an important basis for evaluating academic results, but should not become the sole goal. Evaluation needs to help students recognize their strengths and weaknesses and have appropriate striving directions.

Parents expect more practical learning
From a parent's perspective, Ms. Nguyen Bich Diep - whose child is in 8th grade in Dong Anh commune, Hanoi - believes that not assigning targets that are imposed on the percentage of excellent students can help reduce pressure for both teachers and students.
According to Ms. Diep, teachers, when they do not have to chase after a specific percentage, will have more conditions to focus on expertise and support students in the learning process.
Parents still want their children to study well, but they should not create more pressure for teachers and students because of achievement targets. I think realistic assessment will be better" - Ms. Diep expressed.
Meanwhile, Mr. Dao Van Kha - a parent whose child is in 12th grade in Dong Anh commune (Hanoi) - believes that reducing the pressure of achievement will help final year students have more conditions to focus on their studies and important exams.
According to Mr. Kha, 12th grade students are facing many choices for the journey after high school, so the assessment of academic results needs to accurately reflect their abilities, instead of placing heavy emphasis on score targets.
Not assigning targets does not mean reducing the requirements for learning quality. It is important that students are properly assessed for their results and have conditions to improve their limitations. Schools still need to monitor learning outcomes, program completion rates and students' progress to have appropriate support solutions" - Mr. Kha said.
