The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) proposes that from 2027, each training institution can use a maximum of 5 admission methods, of which each major and training program can use a maximum of 3 methods. From 2028, the MOET expects each major and training program to only use 1 admission method.
Before the above information, some students said they agreed with the orientation of reducing the number of admission methods, because they believe that this can help candidates focus more on the chosen option instead of having to prepare for many exams.
No need to chase after too many exams
Dao Nhat Long - a 12th grade student at Co Loa High School (Hanoi) - shared that he is currently oriented to apply for university admission based on high school graduation exam scores with the A00 combination. In addition, Long is taking extra classes to participate in the competency assessment exam of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The male student said he agreed with the proposal to reduce the number of admission methods. According to Long, when majors use fewer methods, students can clearly determine the direction of preparation and spend more time on the option they choose.
For myself, if I focus on the chosen method, I will be more proactive in studying. I don't have to chase after too many different exams. I also think reducing the number of methods will help make admission more fair, when students can focus on preparing according to clear requirements" - Long shared.
According to the male student, students can currently choose many options to increase their admission opportunities. However, each method has its own preparation requirements, from studying in class, preparing for the high school graduation exam to participating in competency assessment exams.
If students have to prepare simultaneously for multiple exams, they may have to allocate time for many different contents. Therefore, Long believes that reducing the number of admission methods can help candidates focus more on their abilities and suitable options for themselves.
I am still preparing for both the high school graduation exam and the aptitude test. But if each major has a clear admission method, I will easily determine where I need to focus more" - Long said.
Students care about fairness
Hoang Van Tung, from Dong Anh commune (Hanoi), a 12th grade student, is also interested in the proposal to reduce the university admission method. According to Tung, reducing the number of methods can help make the admission process clearer and create fairness among candidates.
If majors have clear and unified admission methods, students will know what they need to prepare, thereby having more fair competition opportunities" - Tung said.
Agreeing with the above proposal, Do Thi Hoai Phuong - an 11th-grade student at a high school in Dong Anh commune (Hanoi) - said that reducing the number of admission methods can create more fairness among candidates.
According to Phuong, when there are many admission methods, students need to understand the conditions, methods and specific requirements of each option. Students who have the conditions to prepare for many exams can choose more directions.
I agree with reducing the admission method because I think it will be fairer. Students can focus on a specific direction instead of having to prepare too many options" - Phuong shared.
As an 11th grade student, Phuong has not specifically determined the university admission method she will use. However, the female student said she is starting to learn about admission information from schools and majors that she is interested in.
According to Phuong, the early announcement of admission methods by universities will help students have time to prepare. In particular, with the expected changes applied from 2027 and 2028, students need to know the requirements early to have appropriate study plans.
