According to the framework plan for the 2026-2027 school year issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, August 24th is the school start day for students at all levels from preschool to high school. Students in the first and last grades have started school from August 17.
From today, students of the remaining grades officially return to school after the summer vacation. At schools, students are able to stabilize their classes, get acquainted with teachers, friends and prepare the necessary conditions before entering the new school year.
Previously, from August 17, students of elementary and final grades in Ho Chi Minh City began to return to school. Organizing early return to school helps students get acquainted with the learning environment, especially 1st, 6th and 10th grade students.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet - Principal of Hiep Tan Primary School (Phu Thanh ward) - said that on the morning of August 24, the school's students arrived fully. Currently, the school has more than 1,300 students.
According to Ms. Minh Nguyet, this week, students come to school to get acquainted with schools, decorate classrooms, stabilize organization and arrange students into classes.
The preparation for the new school year is being carried out by the school according to the plan. The school is also preparing for the opening ceremony of the new school year on September 5 according to the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training.
The expected opening program includes the ceremony part, which includes welcoming first-grade students and online participation. After the ceremony part, there will be festival activities for students.
According to the plan, Ho Chi Minh City will organize the opening ceremony of the 2026-2027 school year simultaneously on the morning of September 5. The opening ceremony will be held live combined with online.
In the 2026-2027 school year, Ho Chi Minh City has more than 2.6 million students, an increase of more than 96,000 students compared to the previous school year.
