As of the morning of August 10, more than 100 universities and academies have announced the benchmark scores for 2026.
Among the announced schools, the University of Information Technology (UIT), Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, leads with the highest benchmark score reaching 100/100 (equivalent to 30/30 points when converted) in the Artificial Intelligence major. This is the first time in history that this school has an absolute benchmark score.
Following are Data Science (91.7 points), Microchip Design (90.5 points), Information Security (88.7 points) and Computer Science (88.5 points), equivalent to 26.55 points or higher on a 30-point scale.
At the University of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, most majors have increased benchmark scores, with a level of about 0.5 - 13 points on a scale of 100 compared to last year.
Separately, the semiconductor engineering major "topped the throne" with 85.8/100 points right in the first year of enrollment.
Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical - Electronics - Telecommunications - Automation - Microchip Design, Mechanical Engineering... all have benchmark scores from 80 or higher.
Similarly, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering, the major of Control Engineering and Automation Technology surpassed to lead with 26.83 points. The majors of Mechatronics Engineering Technology and Microchip Design Engineering are also in the leading group with over 26 points.
Vietnam Aviation Academy in 2026 also caused surprise when the benchmark score for the Flight Operation Management major in the English program reached 27.5 points.
Notably, many STEM majors of the academy increased sharply from 4 to 6 points. Among them are the majors of Airport Construction and Development; Airport Management and Operation; Artificial Intelligence Application (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT); Telecommunications Electronics and Artificial Intelligence (AI); Airport Automation...
In the Northern region, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) also has many majors taking admission thresholds close to 30. Accordingly, there are 3/68 programs with benchmark scores above 29 points; 14/68 programs with benchmark scores above 28 points; 30/68 programs with benchmark scores above 27 points and 53/68 programs with benchmark scores above 24 points.
Leading is the field of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, an advanced program with 29.54 points. The fields of Computer Science, Digital Space Security (advanced programs) are also above 29.
Professor Vu Van Yem - Deputy Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that the benchmark scores for training programs this year generally increased compared to 2025, in which the STEM industry group is noteworthy.
According to Professor Vu Van Yem's assessment, this trend is influenced by the Government's scholarship policy for some science, technology, engineering and mathematics majors, and also reflects the increasing demand of the labor market for human resources in these fields.
Phenikaa University also recorded the highest benchmark score of 27 points - with 2 majors: Vietnam-Japan Information Technology and Applied Mathematics in Economics and Logistics.
In some other universities, the benchmark scores in technology and engineering majors have also increased, such as the University of Civil Engineering, the University of Transport, etc.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phu Khanh - Deputy General Director of Phenikaa University said that in 2026, the number of candidates interested in STEM majors tends to increase. The school has opened a number of new majors and increased training targets to meet the needs of learners.
However, expanding the training scale needs to go hand in hand with investing in a teaching staff, facilities and research projects. This is an important condition for STEM students to have an environment for learning, practicing and researching from the early years, thereby forming thinking, creativity and adapting to the requirements of technology fields in the future.
According to Decree No. 179/2026/ND-CP, eligible students in basic science, key engineering and strategic technology majors are entitled to scholarships of 3.7-5.5 million VND/month.
This year, nearly 870,000 candidates registered for university admission. Of which, about 467,600 candidates chose STEM majors - accounting for 53.45%. The number of aspirations is nearly 2.37 million, accounting for 33% of the whole country.
The Ministry of Education and Training estimates that there are about 30,000-32,000 new students in 111 STEM majors belonging to this category.
