HCMC - In 2024, the admission score for grade 10 in the top group of schools will decrease while the top group - suburban schools will increase.

In 2024, the admission score (expectation 1) for regular grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City ranges from 10.5-24.25 points. Nguyen Thuong Hien High School has the highest benchmark score; the lowest is 3 high schools Binh Khanh, Can Thanh and An Nghia.

Statistics also show that compared to the previous year (2023), out of more than 100 public high schools, up to 60 schools have reduced their admission scores (a decrease of 0.25 to 2.25 points).

Notably, in the group of schools with reduced benchmark scores, 9/10 schools are in the top 10 schools with the highest benchmark scores.

Gia Dinh High School decreased the most with 1.5 points (from 24.5 to 23); Nguyen Thuong Hien High School decreased by 1.25 points (25.5 to 24.25).

Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School and Phu Nhuan High School decreased by 1 point; Mac Dinh Chi High School and Le Quy Don High School decreased by 0.75 points; Nguyen Huu Huan High School and Nguyen Huu Cau High School decreased by 0.5 points and Tran Phu High School decreased by 0.25 points.

The University of Education Practice High School is the only unit in the top 10 to increase the benchmark score (from 22.5 to 23.).

In the group of top-level schools (from 14.75 points and below), 34 schools have benchmark scores at this level. Among them, many schools unexpectedly increased their scores, such as Binh Chanh Sports and Physical Training School increased the most with 2.5 points (from 11.5 in 2023 to 14); Ngo Gia Tu High School increased by 2 points (from 12 to 14 points).

In 2025, the regular grade 10 benchmark is expected to be announced on June 26.

Previously, the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City announced the exam scores of more than 76,000 candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam at public high schools in 2025.

General data shows that the scores for the Literature and Foreign Language subjects are relatively stable, and the Math subject has quite large fluctuations. Statistics show that the number of candidates reaching 8-9.75 is quite large. Especially at 8 points, there are 2,886 candidates and 8.25 points, there are 1,609 candidates. The 9-point level has 336 candidates.

Notably, this year the number of candidates with below-average scores (under 4.75 points) has decreased significantly with 28,028 students, accounting for about 36% (in 2024 it will be 56%).

A Math teacher in Ho Chi Minh City predicts that the benchmark scores of top schools, especially in schools with a high difficult rate, can increase slightly or remain unchanged. The group of top schools may decrease slightly, the group of schools in the middle will not fluctuate too much.

"Although the number of candidates below 5 points has decreased sharply, this year the level of emphasis on tuition has also decreased significantly, when only about 6,000 students were not admitted, while in previous years this number was 20,000. Therefore, to recruit enough students, the group of top schools will keep the standard score or slightly reduce it in some schools," this teacher commented.

The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City 10th grade entrance exam took place on June 6-7 with more than 76,000 candidates attending. The total enrollment target of public high schools is 70,070 students.

The admission score is the total score: Literature score + Foreign language score + Math score + Priority and incentive score (if any).
