On the morning of September 7, the APWeb-WAIM 2026 International Scientific Conference opened at FPT University, Da Nang branch. This is the 10th APWeb-WAIM conference to be held and the first time taking place in Vietnam.
The event gathered more than 100 researchers from 12 countries and territories, including France, Greece, China, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam... 162 studies were presented in direct and online forms. The presentations at the conference focused on web technology, data, databases and directions for AI application in practical problems.

One of the contents mentioned at the conference is the increasingly important role of data for the development of AI systems. In addition to developing smart models, many studies focus on how to organize, query, analyze and exploit data in a more efficient, accurate and secure direction.
Introduced research directions include AI applications in data analysis, detecting fake content, protecting personal data, processing text, images and videos.
Many studies at the conference aim to bring AI and data into solving specific problems in practice. As AI is increasingly widely applied, the requirement is not only to have faster information processing capabilities but also to improve the accuracy, verification capabilities and reliability of the system.
Three plenary sessions of keynote speakers focused on different research directions, from graph computing, vector databases to data systems serving AI. In the opening session, Professor Hai Jin (Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China) mentioned a unified approach to graph computing from foundation to system through the sharing "A Unified Approach of Graph Computing: From Foundations to Systems and Beyond" and received the attention of international experts.

Professor Hai Jin's research proposes a more efficient way to process complex structured data, helping to increase the speed and scalability of AI systems. The presentation also raised the issue of the connection between data processing, AI and scientific computing on the same platform.
The next two main speakers, Professor Xiaofang Zhou (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, China) and Professor Gao Cong (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) respectively presented 2 papers on: "Advanced Similarity Query Processing in Vector Databases" focusing on processing similar queries in vector databases - a technology that is increasingly important for current AI applications; and: "From AI4DB to Databases for AI: Rethinking Data Systems in the LLM Era" on the transformation of data systems in the Great Language Modeling (LLM) era.
Topics from graph computing, vector databases to data systems serving AI show that research in this field not only focuses on model development, but also expands to infrastructure and data systems supporting AI.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Tuan - Vice Rector of FPT University, FPT Corporation shared that international conferences such as APWeb-WAIM are opportunities for students and lecturers to experience, connect, learn and explore new perspectives and research.
APWeb-WAIM is a prestigious international scientific conference aimed at promoting research and academic exchange in fields related to web technology, data, databases and artificial intelligence.
FPT University cooperates with SIGAPP French Chapter to organize APWeb-WAIM 2026, with Springer's companionship. This is also an opportunity for lecturers, students and researchers in Vietnam to directly access works, research trends and international experts in the fields of web, data and AI.
