On June 12, a conference was held at the Can Tho City Party Committee to announce decisions on personnel work.
Accordingly, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, Director of Can Tho University, was appointed to hold the position of Secretary of the Party Committee of Can Tho University for the term 2025-2030.
It is known that this is an important step in consolidating to strengthen the comprehensive leadership of the Party, ensuring the unity between Party building work and management and administration work, promoting the role and responsibility of the head. Thereby, contributing to improving the quality of university governance, promoting innovation, developing high-quality human resources and effectively implementing strategic tasks of Can Tho University in the new development stage.
Previously, on May 25, Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son signed Decision No. 1333/QD-BGDDT on the appointment of the Director of Can Tho University.
According to the Decision, appointing Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh to hold the position of Director of Can Tho University. The term of office is 5 years. The decision takes effect from the date of signing and promulgation.
As Lao Dong newspaper has reported, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh graduated from university at Can Tho University (formerly Can Tho University) in 1997, then participated in a training program in the Netherlands. He studied postgraduate and obtained master's and doctoral degrees in 2004, 2007 at Gyeongsang National University (Korea). In 2013, he was recognized as meeting the standard title of Associate Professor.
During his work, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh held many important management positions such as Head of Electrical Engineering Department, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Technology (now Bach Khoa University). From July 2012 to November 2023, he held the position of Vice Rector of Can Tho University. From December 2023 to May 2026, he was Rector of Can Tho University before being appointed as Director of Can Tho University on May 25, 2026.
Can Tho University is currently a key university and postgraduate training institution in the Mekong Delta. As of 2025, Can Tho University is implementing 127 university-level programs.
