On July 29, many public high schools in Đắk Lắk province are still busy receiving and approving admission documents for 10th-grade students who meet the requirements.
An elderly man over 70 years old in Buôn Ma Thuột city shared: "I am old and weak but do not want my grandchild to attend a private school, so I decided to withdraw the documents to transfer to a public school after the authorities lowered the admission scores."
According to this elderly man, he thought the process would not take much time, but in reality, he had to jostle, inquire, and wait for many hours to complete the procedures.
"Being old and weak, and the child's parents being too busy, I had to do it. When completing the withdrawal procedures from the private school, I had to wait for the results from the public school, which was complicated and time-consuming," the 70-year-old man complained.
Similarly, Ms. N.T.V (Tân Lợi ward, Buôn Ma Thuột city) also had to leave her market business to ensure her child could attend the school of the family's choice.
Right after hearing the news about the lowered admission scores, Ms. V hurried to withdraw the documents from the private high school to apply for a public school. It took her 3 days to complete the procedures for her child and she is still waiting for the results.
Ms. V lamented: "My first child entered high school smoothly, not as difficult as the second one. In 2024, just the studying and exams have already exhausted the family, not to mention the financial costs."
With the admission scores for the 10th-grade entrance exam being too low, the Department of Education and Training of Đắk Lắk province has announced additional admissions for the 2024-2025 school year for public high schools.
Currently, the admission scores for some public high schools in Đắk Lắk have decreased by 1 to 2 points. For example, Trần Đại Nghĩa High School (Buôn Đôn district) adjusted from 31 to 29 points, and Lê Duẩn High School (Buôn Ma Thuột city) adjusted from 32 to 30 points.
Some schools have reduced their scores by 3 to 4 points for admission. Specifically, Phạm Văn Đồng High School (Krông Ana district) adjusted from 27 to 23 points, and Nguyễn Chí Thanh High School (Lắk district) adjusted from 28 to 25 points.
As reported by Lao Động, the admission plan for the 2024-2025 public high school year in Đắk Lắk province is applied according to the current high school graduation exam regulations.
In this year's exam, many schools in Đắk Lắk have very low admission scores, with some requiring only 5 points in total from the three subjects for students to be admitted.
Explaining the low admission scores, the leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Đắk Lắk province stated that the schools conducting the exams have assigned quotas and base the admission scores on the exam results to match the initial quotas. Students with low scores but not below 1 point are still considered for admission.
According to the leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Đắk Lắk province, this year is the first year Đắk Lắk is piloting the 10th-grade entrance exam, so the schools' preparations were not thorough. This will be an experience for the education sector to organize better exams in the following years.
