Ho Chi Minh City parents bring rice to school for their children after temporarily suspending semi-boarding

Ho Chi Minh City - Ho Van Long Secondary School temporarily suspends semi-boarding meals, causing many parents to bring rice to school or pick up their children to lunch.

At noon on September 16, after finishing the class, hundreds of students of Ho Van Long Secondary School (Binh Tan ward, Ho Chi Minh City) took turns leaving the classroom. Instead of using semi-boarding meals as usual, many students stood waiting for parents to bring rice or be picked up by relatives to go home.

At the school gate, some parents took advantage of lunch break time to bring lunch boxes and food to send to their children.

Ms. Thanh Loan - a parent of a student at Ho Van Long Secondary School said that on September 15, while going to work, she received a notice from the school about temporarily suspending the offering of semi-boarding meals.

The school announced that parents can pick up their children to lunch or bring food to school. "To prevent my child from going home in the midday sun, I brought rice for my child," Ms. Loan said.

Not every family can directly bring rice to school. Some parents order food through the application, then students go to the gate to receive it from the delivery person.

Besides, many students are picked up by their families to go home for lunch and then return to school in the afternoon.

Ho Van Long Secondary School has more than 1,300 students at the main point, most of whom register for semi-boarding meals. The temporary suspension of meals has caused many families to change their childcare plans during lunch breaks.

Previously, school parents reflected that some semi-boarding meals showed abnormal signs such as uncooked fried chicken.

On September 15, the school decided to temporarily suspend the provision of semi-boarding meals to handle feedback related to meal quality.

Leaders of Binh Tan ward said that they have received a report from Ho Van Long Secondary School about parents reflecting on the quality of semi-boarding meals. The Ward People's Committee is verifying the case. It is expected that the school will reorganize semi-boarding meals from September 17.
