Quang Tri lacks nearly 600 teachers

At the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, the Quang Tri education sector lacked nearly 600 teachers, although there was a contract plan, it was still not enough.

Prolonged shortage of teachers

On September 12, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, the leader of the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Quang Tri said that the shortage of teachers is still a big challenge at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year.

After reviewing, synthesizing and calculating the number of employees of each public preschool and general education institution in Quang Tri province, the total difference compared to the quota is 3,159 targets, of which 1,178 targets are for employment positions in giao duc and student counseling.

Thus, the difference in considering the assignment of contract contracts is 1,981 targets (deducted from the teaching and student counseling positions of public general education units under the Department of Education and Training and People's Committees of communes, wards and special zones).

In fact, to ensure the maintenance of teaching activities, the Department of Education and Training has made a recommendation and the Provincial People's Council (PPC) has approved the policy of contracting additional teachers according to Decree 111/2022/ND-CP of the Government. For the 2025-2026 school year alone, the number of agreed teacher contracts allocated is 1,372 targets.

"Although the Provincial People's Council has agreed to the contract, this figure only meets about 70% of the difference, meaning that Quang Tri still lacks nearly 600 teachers compared to the norm" - the leader of the Department of Education and Training emphasized.

Temporary solutions to maintain stability

To overcome the shortage of teachers, the Quang Tri education sector is synchronously implementing many solutions. First of all, continue to implement the contract according to the number approved by the Provincial People's Council.

At the same time, take advantage of existing resources by arranging concurrent positions and transferring teachers between schools, especially in areas with a large gap between surplus and shortage.

In addition, the education sector coordinates with localities to reorganize the network of schools, streamline single-school locations, and at the same time ensure the most favorable principle for students in remote areas. Schools are also encouraged to flexibly assign part-time teachers, avoiding the situation where classes do not have teachers to teach.

The leader of the Department of Education and Training added: "We are implementing the instructions of the Provincial People's Committee on reviewing and analyzing the current situation of the team, and closely coordinating with the Department of Home Affairs to propose a recruitment plan in the coming time. The immediate goal is not to interrupt the new school year due to lack of teachers".

The shortage of teachers is not only a problem in Quang Tri but also a common difficulty in many localities. However, for a province with many difficulties like Quang Tri, this situation directly affects the quality of teaching and learning, especially in rural and mountainous areas.

The provincial education sector affirmed that it will continue to recommend the Ministry of Education and Training and relevant ministries and branches to consider adding staffing targets in the coming time.

Along with that, the locality needs the cooperation of the entire political system to remove barriers in procedures and mechanisms, and soon ensure the sufficient number of teachers according to the norm.

While waiting for a long-term solution, teacher contracts are still the most important option to reduce the pressure of shortage. But to improve the quality of sustainable education, the core thing is to add an official payroll" - the leader of the Department of Education and Training shared.
