Find the right direction
The path to university is not too difficult now that schools have expanded their admission methods and built new majors, but many students are not interested in this path and choose another direction.
Nguyen Huong Giang - a 12th grade student at Bac Ninh High School - said that after graduating, she will decide to study a trade. For the female student, this is a practical choice, suitable for her family's conditions and satisfying her personal interests.
“If I go to university, it will take me about 4 years and the tuition fee will be up to hundreds of millions of dong. This is beyond my family’s financial capacity. Vocational training will help me shorten my study time and start working early to help my family,” said Huong Giang.
According to the female student, before deciding which profession to study, she had calculated a lot. There were 3 criteria for Giang to choose a career: personal interests, the ability to stick with the profession as well as the development potential of the industry. "The makeup profession that I chose is a very potential profession because people are increasingly oriented towards beauty, the demand for makeup services is increasing, especially during the peak wedding season or photo shoot season" - Huong Giang shared.
Having a 9th grader in Thanh Hoa City, Ms. Le Thi Hanh said that her son loves cars and wants to pursue a career related to this field. Therefore, the family has directed him to study at a vocational school. "This is a big decision for my son's education. However, after careful consideration, the family has decided to send him to a vocational school after graduating from junior high school. Here, he can learn both a trade and a general education, which is suitable for his abilities and interests," Ms. Hanh shared.
College is not the only way
In recent years, the trend of students enrolling in vocational training institutions has been increasing. These institutions also have many incentives such as scholarships, internship opportunities, and good-paying jobs right after graduation to attract students.
According to Dr. Le Danh Quang - Vice Principal of Hanoi College of Technology, the school has received quite a lot of applications for admission. The school also has many preferential policies for poor households, families with meritorious services, and demobilized soldiers to promote students' learning spirit.
In addition, the school has received many human resource orders from enterprises in the fields of technology, automobiles, and automation. With such orders, students will not have to pay tuition fees and at the same time be guaranteed a good job with good treatment.
“During their studies, if students want to study abroad, the school will facilitate their approval based on their academic performance. After completing their study abroad program, they can stay and work,” said Dr. Le Danh Quang.
Looking from reality, Ms. Tran Thi Tho - teacher at Hoang Van Thu High School (Hanoi) - commented that there are many reasons why students decide to choose vocational training.
“College is not the only path to success. I have seen many university graduates who could not find a job after graduation and had to continue vocational training because they were not proficient in practical skills. Meanwhile, vocational training has a shorter study time, lower costs, and creates conditions for both studying and working, helping students to be able to work immediately after graduation,” said Ms. Tho.
Giving advice to candidates, Ms. Tho shared: “Whether choosing vocational training, university or any other direction, cultural studies are always necessary, must be maintained continuously and persistently. Candidates also need to be confident, consistent with their choice and try to study hard, thereby achieving the results they want.”
