The method of considering high school transcripts in university admission is considered a solution to reduce the pressure of exams and increase the possibility of passing the university entrance exam. Many candidates have even invested in a beautiful, bright transcript right from the first years of high school.
However, currently, a number of students are indifferent to this method for many reasons. The first thing Minh Hang - a 12th grade student at Dong Son 2 High School (Thanh Hoa) mentioned is related to the trend of higher education institutions "saying no" to considering transcripts.
"According to my research, in 2025, many universities announced that they will stop considering high school transcripts or reduce the quota for this method in admission. This makes me quite disappointed, but to be proactive, I decided to change direction and pursue another method, instead of relying on high school transcripts" - Hang said.
The female student also said that the "battle" for a good academic record is not easy because each school has a different way of testing, evaluating, and giving scores. In particular, the quality of education between regions is also different. Therefore, the chance of passing the university entrance exam with this method is decreasing.

The next reason given by Hoang Sang - a 12th grade student at Quang Xuong 4 High School (Thanh Hoa) is that he does not have any clear strengths in his academic record.
"A candidate's academic record is usually built from academic results over many years. I felt that I did not do well in some subjects, so I chose the entrance exam method to have a chance to "turn around" the situation," Sang said.
The male student also said that in the current context, many universities only give priority to students with special achievements, some schools consider transcripts with additional conditions, or only apply to certain majors. Therefore, this is not the optimal solution in Sang's race to get into university.
Sharing the same issue, Quynh Giao - an 11th grade student at Nhan Chinh High School (Hanoi) - said that the report card scores can be affected by the evaluation and grading methods of each high school. This leads to inconsistencies in the report card results between students from different schools.
The fact that many universities do not consider transcripts and candidates do not participate in admission by this method also contributes to reducing "virtual scores".
In 2025, according to the draft admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, if considering academic records, schools must use a combination of at least three subjects, including Math or Literature with a proportion of one-third or more of the total score. Schools must also use the learning results of the entire 12th grade year, instead of using scores from 3-5 semesters as before.
In addition, the Ministry of Education and Training plans to tighten early admission to 20% of the target instead of having no control as before.
