According to the 2026 resident doctor enrollment target list, the enrollment scale between majors has a significant difference.
Notably, the internal medicine major has the highest quota with 50 doctors, followed by Diagnostic Imaging 30 and Dermatology 22.
The group has 20 indicators including Internal Medicine - Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Odonto-Stomatology, Psychiatry and Cancer.
Meanwhile, the majors of Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Traditional Medicine and Family Medicine all have 15 targets; Emergency Resuscitation enrolls 16.
In the opposite direction, many majors only recruit from 2-5 resident doctors such as Pharmacology and Toxicology, Human Anatomy, Parasitology, Immunology, Medicine, Nutrition, Physiology and Allergy.
Notably, Surgery has only 15 quotas, 7 quotas lower than Dermatology and only 30% of the enrollment scale of Internal Medicine.
However, the number of targets does not reflect the attractiveness of each major.
At Matching Day, the order of choice of high-scoring candidates and the time each major runs out of targets are the data that more clearly shows the trend of choosing majors of young doctors.
Hospital doctors are not a short journey, and choosing a major is probably not an easy decision either.
