Informing Lao Dong Newspaper, the National Traffic Safety Committee said that on the September 1 holiday, there were 60 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 29 people and injuring 41. All accidents occurred on the road .
Thus, during the first two days of the National Day holiday on September 2, 2024, there were 118 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 56 people and injuring 87 people.
Regarding traffic congestion, authorities said that in Hanoi and neighboring localities, on the morning of September 1, traffic volume in Hanoi and neighboring localities decreased significantly, traffic was smooth, there were no prolonged traffic congestions or serious traffic accidents.
"In Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring localities, the traffic situation at the city's gateways and on the two expressways Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay and Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong - My Thuan, although traffic volume has increased and vehicles are moving slowly, the authorities have coordinated to regulate and separate traffic from a distance, preventing traffic jams" - said the National Traffic Safety Committee.
Regarding patrolling and controlling to ensure order in all road traffic, local police inspected, detected and handled 15,236 violations; imposed fines of VND 32 billion 853 million; temporarily detained 147 cars, 5,213 motorbikes, 100 other vehicles; revoked driving licenses of 2,816 cases.
Of which, there were 4,049 cases of alcohol concentration violations; 3,741 cases of speed violations; 178 cases of overloading; 41 cases of exceeding the size limit; and 17 cases of drug violations.
On National Highway 1A, authorities detected and recorded 2,051 violations, fined 3 billion 925 million VND; revoked 366 driving licenses, and detained 401 vehicles. Of which, 340 cases were alcohol violations; 746 speed violations; 14 weight violations; 12 oversized violations...
On the highway, the police inspected and recorded 105 violations, imposed fines of 386 million VND, revoked driving licenses of 57 cases, and temporarily detained 1 vehicle.
On waterways, authorities detected and handled 160 violations, imposing fines of 185 million VND.
Railway, detected and handled 3 violations; fined 3 million VND.
The National Traffic Safety Committee informed that on September 1, 2024, there were 03 calls and messages from people reflecting on the hotline of the Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee reflecting on the traffic safety and order situation, traffic congestion situation in the locality... The calls were forwarded to the authorities for timely verification and handling.
The National Traffic Safety Committee assessed: From noon on August 31, 2024 to noon on September 1, 2024, traffic safety was stable, with traffic congestion occurring on some gateway routes into and out of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
The reason is the sudden increase in traffic volume, exceeding the capacity of the traffic infrastructure system.
Authorities have deployed traffic organization and traffic flow control plans to help keep traffic flowing smoothly, avoid prolonged congestion and especially serious traffic accidents.
