Hanoi completes expansion of chronically congested road

HỮU CHÁNH |

Hanoi - The Au Co - Nghi Tam road expansion project, with an investment of more than 540 billion VND, has been basically completed after many years of sluggish construction.

Au Co - Nghi Tam Street (Tay Ho District) is the lifeline connecting Hanoi center with Noi Bai International Airport.

The narrow road surface while receiving a large number of vehicles every day has made the road over the years become a "hot spot" for congestion, making people's travel difficult.

To solve the above situation, in 2020, Hanoi invested in expanding Au Co - Nghi Tam route (section from Thang Loi hotel to Nhat Tan intersection).

The project has a length of 3.7 km, total investment of 544 billion VND, invested by the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board.

According to the original plan, the expansion was expected to be completed after 1 year, but the project continued to lag behind schedule and was scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2024.

Recorded by Labor on August 21, after 4 years of construction, the section from Thang Loi hotel intersection to Quang An flower market, about 1.5 km long, has completed the asphalt carpet and railings on both sides.

Lighting systems, median strips, signs, traffic signals... have also been installed on the route. The residential road, about 5 meters wide on both sides, has also been completed.

The remaining route from Quang An flower market to Lac Long Quan intersection, more than 1.5 km long, has also basically completed the asphalt surface, so people can move around conveniently.

Currently, the main work on the construction site is completing the lighting system, median strips, railings, painting road markings, reorganizing traffic...

The route has been widened in cross section from 26.5 m to 31 m, of which the main road surface is from 16.5 m to 21 m wide (equivalent to 4 to 6 lanes).

Mr. Nguyen Van Son (Quang An ward, Tay Ho) said that the project's sluggish construction for many years caused people along the route to live in a very miserable situation of "sun, dust, and muddy rain".

"Up to now, the road is basically complete, travel is convenient, hopefully the lives of people on both sides of the route will also have many changes" - Mr. Son said.

After being expanded, Au Co - Nghi Tam Road is expected to relieve congestion and ensure traffic connecting Hanoi center with Noi Bai International Airport.
