Traffic accidents increase
According to the Quang Tri Provincial Police, in recent times, the police forces of various units and localities have been determined and made efforts to implement many solutions, but the road traffic accident situation in Quang Tri province is still complicated. In the first 9 months of 2024, there were 162 road traffic accidents, killing 77 people and injuring 129 people (an increase of 21 cases and 16 deaths compared to the same period in 2023).
Notably, after April 4, 2024, when the Vietnam Road Administration implemented a traffic diversion plan, banning heavy trucks and passenger cars with more than 30 seats from entering the Cam Lo - La Son expressway, traffic accidents on National Highway 1 increased.
Statistics from Quang Tri Provincial Police show that from April 4 to September 20, 24 traffic accidents occurred on National Highway 1A passing through the province, killing 15 people and injuring 11. Of these, 12 accidents involved heavy trucks and passenger vans with more than 30 seats (killing 9 people and injuring 2 people).
Through analyzing the causes of traffic accidents occurring on National Highway 1A, it can be seen that in addition to the subjective fault of traffic participants, there is also an objective factor that North-South vehicles are concentrated on National Highway 1A in narrow road conditions, increasing traffic volume, especially heavy trucks. Therefore, when participating in traffic, motorbikes and motorbikes often fall into the blind spots of large-sized, heavy-duty vehicles, easily causing traffic accidents.
For this reason, Quang Tri Provincial Police have repeatedly made recommendations and reported on the traffic accident situation, and proposed changes to the traffic diversion plan on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway, but so far it has not been considered and resolved.
Requesting the Vietnam Road Administration to comment on the petition of Quang Tri voters
Mr. Hoang Duc Thang - Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Quang Tri province said that on September 24, the National Assembly Delegation of Quang Tri province sent a document to the Vietnam Road Administration regarding the urging of the implementation of the recommendations of voters of Quang Tri province.
Accordingly, this is the third document of the National Assembly Delegation of Quang Tri province sent to the Vietnam Road Administration regarding the consideration of changing traffic flow on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway.
In the documents, the inadequacies in traffic flow on the Cam Lo - La Son highway were pointed out and specific solutions were proposed.
Based on the survey results and working with relevant units, the Vietnam Road Administration has issued a written report on the proposal to organize traffic diversion on the Cam Lo - La Son Expressway. In particular, it recommends that the Ministry of Transport allow the Vietnam Road Administration to direct relevant units to study, analyze, and report on appropriate traffic diversion plan adjustments, and consider implementing them in August 2024.
“However, up to this point, the traffic diversion plan on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway has not changed as proposed. Every day, large trucks and passenger vans with more than 30 seats run on National Highway 1, passing through the city, an area with many schools and heavy traffic. Therefore, we continue to have documents, requesting the Vietnam Road Administration to respond to voters' recommendations before the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly,” said Mr. Hoang Duc Thang.
