More than 3 months ago, on July 30, the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB), together with consultants and contractors, started drilling tunnels using TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) for the underground section of the Nhon - Hanoi station metro project at station S9 - Kim Ma.
TBM1 (named Than Toc) drilled from S9 - Kim Ma station at a depth of 17.8m. By mid-September, when TBM1 had drilled about 200m, TBM2 (named Tao Bold) began drilling.
Two robots dig two parallel tunnels from station S9 - Kim Ma station to station S12 - Tran Hung Dao station at a standard speed of about 10m/day.
In mid-November 2024, regarding the progress of the Nhon - Hanoi metro stations, a representative of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board said that after more than 3 months of implementation, the TBM had drilled 625m, reaching the area of the escape shaft, one of the important items of the project.
The 4km underground excavation is expected to last 16 months, with a total of 150 participants. The main tasks include operating the TBM, the tunnel lining robot arm, and replacing the cutting head...
"We are currently closely following the progress and will complete the tunnel boring work by November 2025," said a representative of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board.
The pair of TBMs were specially designed for the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station project. The machines were manufactured by Herrenkecht (Germany), are over 100m long and weigh about 850 tons.
Upon completion, the TBMs will be dismantled at station S12 - Tran Hung Dao (opposite Hanoi station), and the auxiliary equipment system will be pulled back and dismantled at station S9 - Kim Ma.
The urban railway project No. 3, Nhon - Hanoi station section, is 12.5km long, with 8 elevated stations and 4 underground stations. Of which, the elevated section Nhon - Cau Giay is 8.5km long and the underground section Cau Giay - Hanoi station is 4km long.
Route: Starting point Nhon - along National Highway 32 - Cau Dien - Mai Dich - intersection with Ring Road 3 - Cau Giay (intersection with Ring Road 2) - Kim Ma - Cat Linh - Quoc Tu Giam - Hanoi station (on Tran Hung Dao street).
Trains from Station S8 (Thu Le) will go down to the basement (the ramp has been built next to Daewoo Hotel) then enter tunnel S9, passing through S10, S11, S12 (last station, opposite Hanoi station).
The project started in 2009 and was scheduled to be completed in 2015, but the schedule was delayed several times. On August 8, 2024, the elevated section began commercial operations, and the entire line is expected to be completed in 2027.
